This brown baby has a big head w/ a fizzy, malty flavor. A lot has been said about it already; definitely one to try.

Pours a deep murky brown with a tan creamy head. The aroma is sweet, definitely Belgian, alcohol shows through, some dark sugars and fruits. The flavor is sweet, crisp, slight alcohol, Belgian flavor, grapes. The palate is cool and crisp. A good Belgian, not up to par with a dubbel.

Poured a dark brown; hints of red; murky. Not much head. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet, spice, sugar and yeast. Flavor was much of the same, but with noticable malt and caramel; bitter and spice finish. Mouthfeel was a little thin for my liking, but still good. Flavors blended well, but just didnt blow me away.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2005 Pours a dark reddish brown with a nice amount of off-white head. The head stays forever and the beer is excellently carbonated. Aroma is filled with spice. Taste has a great spice to it that starts kind of sweet and goes down very smooth. I think i got hints of apple in the taste too. Very good trappist.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2003 I found this to be somewhat medicinal. It did little for me. I tasted a lot of flavors, and it was a truly malty beer. A bit disappointed. A little bitter, too, though the aroma hints of sweetness that wasn't there.

Brown with a big head on pouring that soon dissapears.Very full flavour that explodes in your mouth Not as complex as I had anticipated but still a very good example of this style.

(bottle - 330 ml) Dark brown color with a mound of tan foam. Aroma is light and slightly fruity with some dark malts and some very light spice. Flavor is sweet and lightly spiced at the beginning with a hint of raisins, chocolate, and yeast. Alcohol is warming at the end with a very bubbly mouthfeel.

This one has been in storage for a while - the label reads best by 13/05/04. Its still good two and a half years after the supposed expiration date. Pours deep brown / bronze with a minimal tan head. The aroma has dark fruits, brown sugar and thick toasted malt that is musty and earthy. Medium / thick body that starts smooth and rich, but has a lot of carbonation on the finish despite its age. The taste starts with thick roasted caramel malt, brown sugar and dark fruits. The finish adds a bit of spice and a touch of sourness.
This is a world class beer that ages very gracefully.
