Pours ruby with mostly receding tan head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, bubble gum and tropical fruits.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with lush carbonation. A very nice and elegant beer.

Bottle. Deep brown pour with red highlights. Caramel, toffee, fruit, and sugar on the nose. Fruit, toffee, and chocolate in the flavor, but something about the flavor isn’t resonating with me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - APR 3, 2004
Borwn in color, medium sized tan head that lasted for a nice long time and faded to a nice lace.Nice fruity aroma with hints of bread, yeast, malt and what seems almost a tea like character but then i could be dreaming.Very nice flavor up front fruity and sweet with a quick change to mild bitter in the middle and finishing up with a fruit bitterness. The alcohol is noticeable but not to overly so.IMO a very nice brew and well worth trying again. Thanks go to Nexxus for sending this fine brew my way.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Frank (1966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 1, 2003
Sampled on tap in Brugges, Belgium. Dark brown with about a quarter inch of tan head and a decent amount of lace. Lightly aromatic--earthy, bready, maybe a hint of bubblegum. Much lighter than I expected flavor-wise, bland even especially for a Trappist dubbel. Slight candi sugar hints. Some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Slightly thin on the palate. Good but not the best beer to illustrate the greatness of the Trappists.

Wow. First taste was like someone threw a shot of Kentucky Bourbon in there. Subsequent tastes were a little more subdued possibly due to the Little Debbie Nutty Bar I was eating. Quite complex. A nice caramel nose, bubbly. Quite good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Quevillon (1955) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 5, 2006
But au Bistro Belge (St-Hubert, Quéebec), 33 cl. Brun foncée voilée, petit collet blanche. Arome très caramelisé, un peu épicé. Goût légèrement malté et épicé, pas trop alcoolisé.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 fordest (1954) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - OCT 17, 2005
330 ml bottle. Aroma was way more sweeter and fruitier than the flavor. Aromas of cherry and currant prevailed with some caramel and molassas in there too. The flavor was very malty, with a tinge of sour viniousness to it.
Pretty good stuff.
