4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Kevin (1951) - Colorado, USA - NOV 27, 2004
pours an auburn color with a thin tan head. aroma is yeast, dark fruit plum, banana, and candy. taste is creamy sweet and rich. finish is an enjoyable earthy flavor. there is some bitterness but not much. leaves a subtle fruity taste on the front of the tongue. enjoyable yeasty flavor throughout.

Deep reddish mahogany, bit puffy white head slides downward to form a brownish, creamy film. Great nose, chocolate covered cherries, raisins, and prunes. Quite tasty, chocolate, dark fruit, lots of candy sugars. Richly sweet in the finish, leaves a nice aftertaste hanging about. Almost enough to make me rethink my less-than-spectacular opinion of dubbels.

Bottle- Lcbo purchase- Pours a murky, almost opaque chestnut. Head is one finger beige froth. Aromas are massive dark fruits, like figs and prunes. Lots of spices, caramel(burnt), floral. Tastes of caramalized and over-ripe plums, floral spicyness, melted brown sugar, with substantial bitterness(hopping) for the style, that leads well into the finish. Silky and lush, not the least bit heated. Just the way I like dubbels.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Immy (1942) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - JAN 7, 2006
11.2 oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown with a thick, light brown head that lasts forever. Nice lacing throughout. Nose is weak, but follows the style - dark fruits, black cherries and a bit of malt. Flavor is more malty, with the fruit blending in nicely. Body was more watery than expected, and the flavors weaker than other dubbels I have tried. Finish is clean and just a touch dry. Overall, nice, but the body and weakness were disappointing.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tarjei (1941) - Bryne, NORWAY - MAY 5, 2007
33 cl bottle. Dark red-brown. Beige head. Aroma is fruit and malt. Flavor is caramel, fruit/flowers, dark malt, a bit coffee. Very carbonated. Dry, medium bitter finish. My 100th rating, on my mother´s 58th birthday.

What a mercy! I can drink a bottle WestmalleDubbel if i want.
Beautiful appearance with a reddish color and a stable-foamy lacing and beige head. The aroma is complex, spicey. Roasted malt, fruits and caramel. In the taste dominates the roasted malt with nice fruity tastes(raisins), chocolate and the hidden alcohol. In the aftertaste the caramel and roasted malt flavour are together. I like the trappist monks and their beers:) Thank you, dear monks!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - JUN 21, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2006 Brownish body with a tint of red, small head, beautiful lacing. Aroma is malt dominated with notes of darker fruits, yeast, caramel and spices. Flavor is the same, and it’s not a monster like some of the other trappists, but it’s certainly well done.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 21, 2005
Moderately hazy with a deep ruby-brown color and a perfectly dense, foamy, 1/2" tan head. Light chocolate confectionary powder leads the aroma, also factoring in pepper, copper, sodden leaves and a blunt cinnamon-nutmeg combo. Sleek introduction to the palate. A chocolate muffin motif counterbalances an overall arid mouth feel. Nutty, chocolatey tobacco accents. Complexities arrive late to the scene and are somewhat depleted, but it’s good that they made the effort of being present. Tree bark curtails on the backend. Innocuously creamy, dry and twang infested. Lacks the body and substance I hoped it would showcase. Some subliminal balancing forces are at work here, and complaints aren’t harbored against that particular direction of this Trappist ale. Finishes with a stainless steel semblance met with mild cocoa powder.
