Pours dark brown with a thick, rocky beige head. Aroma of malts, fruits, toffee, coffee and caramel. Taste is dry and bitter, but still has a round sweetness coming along. Well balanced, although a bit dry for a dubbel. Finish is very warm, dry and bitter. Good carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2008 330 ml bottle. pours reddish brown with a thick white head that lasts the whole glass through. aroma of malt, belgian sugars, spices, and a little fruit. flavors balanced well of malt, berries, and rasins with a slightly bitter finish. nicely carbonated with a very smooth mouthfeel. overall a great brew.

rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Pours red brown with a beige ring. Fruity oxiditzed tobacco aromas. Watery thin and a low carbonation. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, red fruit, drying and watery. Maybe it was the overly warm temps but I wasn’t too much into this one. 8/3/6/2/11 = 3.0

Pours a chocolatey brown color. Lots of carbonation. Light brown head. Pre-dominate rummy alcoholice aroma. The flavor is where its at. Chocolate, raisins, cooked sugars, rum, other dark fruits. Full on the palate yet easy to drik several. Very nice. I may start keeping a couple around.

Dark, Dark orange-red/ looks like blood; Head was thin but fizzy; Aroma was full of Cognac and alcohol. Alcohol fills the mouth. Still very Cognac-like in the mouth. Also surprisingly dry, but not floral like an Orval. Very little sweetness or grapiness that i might have expected from this style. Palate was a bit thin.

$5.99 bottle Unusual sharp bitterness. Dark amber color. Like an orange peel, or bitter nut shell. A bit medicinal. Best by 8/30/2009. Possibly a hint of grapefruit sourness. Aroma is nice and malty. Big mixed bubble head that fades slowly. A hint of skunk.

33cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (FL). Pours a dark chocolate brown with a thin tan head. In the nose, the beer smells slightly sweet, caramel, hints of toffee, inviting aroma. Flavor: sweet, malty, smooth, hints of spices and herbs with a very slight sour/sweet finish. Tastes faintly of barley on subsequent sips. Nice dubbel.

Dark ruby tint to the brown color, beautiful creamed color head, very well balanced, full bodied, lots of malty flavors, some hints of some kind of fruit flavors as well, nice well-rounded aftertaste, very good Trappist beer
