4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DocLock (5776) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2004
Bottle. Pours coppery/brownish, with a gargantuan, long-lasting head and great lacing. Aroma of malt, fruit, berries, concord grapes, toffee, and cognac. Tastes very malty, with a complex fruity flavor. I tastes plum, pear, grapes, licorice, brown sugar, and port in this one. Finishes smooth, crisp, malty, with some sweet brown sugar taste at the finish. Nice complexity and nicely balanced.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (5631) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 6, 2007
11.2oz bottle, BB 7/14/07 (inspired by the "I can’t believe I haven’t rated..." thread). Poured a deep plummy caramel with a delicate and creamy cap of yellowy-beige head... left a nice, thorough lacing as it went down. Nose picked up a hefty dose of plum and raisiny fruits, dry, almost dusty notes of earth, and lesser notes of chocolate. The flavor department began with spicy and lightly sour hops, transitioning well into a creamy middle of darker fruits and caramel.. with spicy earth returning for the finish.. rather dry across the palate with a heavy yeast presence.. the finish didn’t carry much weight and felt almost empty after the fuller body. Very good brew, but fell short of the upper echelon.

its great, theres no doubting that. Rich in flavour, and lovely dark appearance. i think that my rating would have been affected by the weather (it was hot), but i still thought it pleasant to drink, but i will be retasting it, theres no doubt about that.
