can8ianben (608), Pasadena, California, USA May 22, 2005 Sweet raisen like aroma which includes some molasses like essence. The appearance is very nice with a deep dark prune like colour. Huge tan head lasts for a little while. The flavour is interesting. Malty and fruity, almost an apple cider like flavour. Definitely the wine-like feel over other belgium ales. Very smooth and not as overwhelming as other belgiums I’ve sampled. This is very drinkable.
SCBrew (25), San Clemente, California, USA Sep 4, 2008 Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Sweet plum/raisin aroma. Spicy fruity flavor with wonderful abbey yeast compliments. Very smooth body. Left me wanting another. hellbilly (865), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Sep 3, 2008 bottle BB 1/23/10... ruby brown pour is opaque from the yeast skittering down the glass. tan head is soapy and soft with some drippy lacing left behind. super malty aroma is packed with fruit especially raisins and warming spices. the flavor reminds me of raisin brioche dusted with cinnamon and clove sugar... fruity, bready, really malty with a straw-like finish yet dry and slightly bitter. nothing really jumps out at me but i could session this... medium body with a slick smooth mouth feel... oteyj (332), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Sep 3, 2008 Pours murky brown with slight red tint. Aroma is sweet of caramel and plum, with lots of citrus zest. Flavor is sweet, but not unbalanced- bitter but not astringent. Lots of dark fruit and caramel coming out from the malt with good depth and excellent character. Palate is smooth, having lots of carbonation but great body. craftycarl21 (194), South Hero, Vermont, USA Sep 3, 2008 pours a dark brown with a copper tint, nice creamy head for the style. Aroma is grainy with notes of dry hops, some citrus- less sweet than i was expecting. Flavor is malt, caramel, and dark fruit, but the depth of the malt flavoring and its intertwining with the secondary flavors is far better than most of this style. Really smooth and drinkable palate, excellent beer. CafeeOndineke (22), Aalst, Belgium Sep 1, 2008 33cl bottle, darkred ambercolor, harmonious bitter and lightsweet with a hint of caramel. I prefer it from the tap!
