Poured from 33 cl bottle into a Westmalle goblet with some of the yeast sediment. Pours with large head with low retention but excellent lacing. Dark reddish brown colour with some haziness. Aroma is sweet and fruity with some alcohol and yeastiness. Taste is sweet and yeasty with some fruity notes. Alcohol can be tasted but still blends in quite nicely. Full body with medium carbonation. An excellent trappist beer.

Dark amber colour, slightly hazy. Aroma of scotch and overripe fruits, some hops. Taste quite alcoholic, but at the same time a bit too watery - semi sweet/semi bitter. On the palate a hint of honey, some banana, lightly roasted coffee, hops quite pronounced, medium bitter finish. Tastes like a slightly better Leffe.

A malty, crossed with banana’s aroma. An eastern touch in the taste with accents of yuzu, lychee and other kinds of eastern fruit.

I really like this beer. It’s not too sweet, the longer you drink it the more the bitter hops popping up. It has a fantastic balance.

It’s hard to focus on this beer without comparing it to its stunning sister, in whose shade this beer lives. It’s got a complex flavour with subtles nuances. Hardly feel the 7 percent.

"lots of sweet malt and yeasty spice on the nose - GREAT aroma, but it falls short of the Rochefort 6 in all other aspects. Mine foamed like crazy as well, as did the tripple, so the 11.2 oz became about 10. Kind of a disappointing start, but it smelled and looked great (eventaully). the flavor was quite nice, and complex, if not as smooth as the best. spicy fruit finish."

0.33l bottle served in a Chimay chalice. A: Pours a dark amber to brown bit cloudy color. A huge creamy beige head is formed when poured. Low retention and only few lacings left in the glass S: Strong on Belgium yeasts. Sweet. Candy sugar and honey. Brown bread, caramel malts and citrus hops in the end. Very fruity with strong notes of grapes. Some notes of wood T: As the nose, first impression is a toffee, candy sugar and honey sweetness. Grapes and oak. Brown bread, roasted malts and Belgian yeasts. Funny bubblegum sensation in the tong. End is mainly composed by a citrus, earthy and dry mild hoppy bitterness M: Medium body and carbonation. Sweet upfront followed by a earthy citrus mild bitterness O: Very drinkable. Very well done. Mandatory for Belgian lovers [ BA Review @ 1/15/2010 ]

33cl bottle shared in a Gouden Carolus glass. Pours a dark red colour with some sediment at the bottom. Head is off white and quite good. Aroma is complex but not so plentiful as I would have liked. Taste is sweet with a bitterish aftertaste. Bread, stone fruits and sugar dominate the palate. Could do with more spices for me and it had a slightly thin mouthfeel. Not in my opinion in the same class as Westmalle tripel or the other Trappist monasteries’ efforts.
