3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I really like this beer, it is not as sweet as you would expect for a dubbel, but it has a nice balanced, dark chocolaty finish. It shares some characteristics of a stout in its taste, although It has a nice fizz to it. I think the availability and price of this beer (in Belgium, France & NL) boost it’s credentials. I would say this is a good mid-week beer.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Another superior Trappist beer! This dubbel poured an amber brown color with minimal haziness and a thin white head, featuring a strong fresh aroma of caramel malt and fruity notes of sweet raisin and fig. The flavor likewise was predominantly an excellent rich bready maltiness, with various expressions of tropical yeast accents. Distinct notes of honey without any sugary sweetness. Although the beer itself didn't seem overly carbonated, there was a distinct fizziness to the palate which detracted from the flavor. Still had a pleasant and fresh presence to it, unlike the more rustic musty notes that seem common to abbey ales. Finished with a refined toasted malt bitterness. Quite an enjoyable culinary experience!

Served in a tulip glass from a bottle. Pours a deep ruby-brown colour with thick slowly diminishing tan head, leaving medium lacing behind. Aroma is vinous with notes of banana, honey, alcohol, bread, yeast and malts. Taste is also vinous with bready and malty notes, the alcoholic notes are very clear all the way through. Very well balanced beer with medium body and low carbonation. Unfortunately, the distinctive presence of alcohol from start to finish has somewhat ruined it for me.

Aikaslailla alkoholinen. Lenkin jälkeen saunassa ei välttämättä ole muutenkaan oikea paikka.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Ruby-dark color, big creamy head. Smell of breadcrust, malt. Body is rather low, finish is quite hoppy and bitter. More than in my memories for this bottle. Too much, but this leads to a refreshing character. Alcohol is well hidden. I´m missing the dried fruits, caramel, raisin part. Somewhat thin. BBF Sept. 2017.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 13, 2016 Cloudy chestnut caramel colour, nice beige top. Average carbonation. Slightly thin body for Dubbel, but refreshing. Some plums, hops, honey, dark fruits, but none of the taste is dominant, the same is with Trippel Westmalle. That means this beer is distinctively well balanced. Westmalle Dubbel is a dark Trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle.
