A mesmerizing beer to the eyes. Deep red/brown color with a fluffy, creamy, slightly tan tinged/off white head. Lots of toast and raisons in the nose; complex spiciness. Medium creamy texture with a dry, balanced finish. Little to no hop character yet beautifully balanced and quite dry. Overall an outstanding beer--when I think of what a dubbel should be this is the beer that comes to mind.

This wonderful beer is pretty much what I think of when I think of an abbey dubbel. It’s very dark red with a huge light tanhead that’s long-lasting and leaves a bit of lace. The aroma is a bit like a barleywine, with rich dark malty qualities, caramel, toast, yeasty bread dough, and fruit with hints of alcohol. The taste is first malty sweet, spicey fruit and toast with smooth, warming alcohol - also a bit like a barleywine. Then it becomes more bitter in the spiciness with more caramel, cehrries, prunes, etc., and balances out nicely. It is a rich, complex, but smooth and easy-to drink dubbel.

What a mercy! I can drink a bottle WestmalleDubbel if i want. Beautiful appearance with a reddish color and a stable-foamy lacing and beige head. The aroma is complex, spicey. Roasted malt, fruits and caramel. In the taste dominates the roasted malt with nice fruity tastes(raisins), chocolate and the hidden alcohol. In the aftertaste the caramel and roasted malt flavour are together. I like the trappist monks and their beers:) Thank you, dear monks!

Really good. I think this may get over looked some compared to their tripel. Dark loveliness. Serving: Bottle and tap

Bottle poured in Westmalle glass. Pours a very dark brown beer with a nice tanned head. Westmalle Dubbel is bottle conditioned so there is a lot of carbonation going on. My example had a distinct aroma of apples, it kind of surprised me since this is something I normally associate with Geuze Lambics. Taste is again apples at first and then the sweet, smooth taste of malt and raisins perhaps (?). Aftertaste lasts quite a while. Westmalle Dubbel is one of the best examples of a strong dark trappist ale. Just like their Tripel, the Dubbel is another winner from Westmalle. Highly recommended.

33 mL bottle into a Westmalle glass. Very dark beer with a hint of purple. Looks the business. Good but short lived head. Very rich and strong tasting head, but subtley blended. A very rich and strong trappist beer which hides its alcohol strength well. Tastes special and always has, one of my favourite beers in the world. Rich and full and with a few hidden features that require further tasting. Excellcent.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2012 One of my favorites. The beers most prominent aroma is of dark dried fruit - but not overwhelmingly. And its dark brown appearance lends itself nicely to the dried fruit notes. On the palette, its bliss. Almost heady for me. Dried dates and raisins are the flavors I first detect. Has a very smooth finish. Delicious!

Lovely rich colouring - hints of ruby in the chestnut mahogany. Tan head, which hangs around and helps with the aromas. Stunning looker. Very mild alcohol on the nose, which is overtaken by the spices and fruits. Raisins, figs, caramel, vanilla. Play with this on the tongue a little and you can coax out a bit of banana, grapes. A veritable fruit salad! A nice malty sweetness and paired bitterness on the clean palate which is hard to fault. A beer THIS easy to drink and delicious should probably be illegal. Fab!
