UPDATED: NOV 14, 2003 Dark reddish mahogany color, fine-bubbled and very persistent head. Aroma is quite complex, having some various dark and sweet fruits, a slightly medicinal component, and some dark sugar. Flavor is also quite complex, with the sweet-bready malty flavors dominating, but also a touch of wine. Creamy mouthfeel for such a style. Spicy and interesting yeast flavors in the finish. Medium bodied. I tried it both before and after I swirled and poured the yeast. The yeast added a bit of nuttiness and sharpness to the finish. Incredible lacing, this is an attractive beer, and a very nice one all around. Unique.

The head on this stuff is incredable, a full firm 1.5’ over the rim. And the flavor is so complex, lots of malt and hops. Very well balanced, one of the best doubles available.

A dark with a tan persistent head. Herbal like tequila, toffee, hints of bubblegum. Back is softened hops and the feel is very nice creamy laced with alcohol heat. It’s on the drier side of abbey ales and that’s a very good thing.

A wild head on this beer, very thick. It had a fruity, plum aroma. This beer is very complex, yet easy to drink. Very palatable and cool on the tongue. Fruity taste with chocolate and yeast. Slight notes of unripened banana. Apples came out strong in the finish. I also got a slight peppermint finish in the back of the throat. A world class beer!

Clove raisin aroma. Huge tan head tops a deep rust colored body. Though sweet, this beer balances hop character well, never coming off as overly sweet. Not watery by any means, but pleasantly less thick than other Trappist dubbels. Fantastic from first sip through to finish.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2005 33 cL bottle, before 27/03/03, sampled early July 2005: murky, orange brown – light brown, tight bubbled foam diminishes into a thin wispy mosaic…Plumy, cherry skin aroma with full yeasty notes, raisins, brown sugar, honey, and toffee. Well carbonated palate is initially fizzy, but as it warms subdues a little bit to become the perfect delivery system. Soft, luscious apple flesh, sweet plum juice, figs, lightly bitter honey and an elegant warm doughiness blend in beautiful combination, a close rival to its cousins Westy 12 and Rochefort 10. 9/4/9/5/18 4.5
11.2 fl oz bottle. Best before 27/03/03, sampled 28 November 2005: modest, light brown, small bubble Styrofoam…diminishing into a thin, patchy film. Thin, watery edges surround a cloudy, deep brown-cedar body with violet highlights. Sweet prunes, chestnuts, toasted toffee, alcohol laced caramel, and dark cherry and grape skins make up a superb aroma. Complex flavour profile with dusty milk chocolate, smooth toffee, yellow cake, tobacco, bitter-sweet honey, and bitter tangerine zest. The finish is light, sweet and fruity with a lingering bitterness. Still a great treat, but already declining since the sample 6 months ago or so... 9/4/8/4/17 4.2
