Dark brown color with a phenominal bready, spicy aroma that invites the taste that doesn’t disappoint. Wonderfully malty with continued spiciness. Great beer.

1996 vintage (with a new 2003 vintage to follow)Part 3 of my Trappist tasting with Mkobes. pours a beautiful reddish orange with lots of floaties. Awesome head as with any trappist. Sharp fruity tobacco aroma. Yum. Full bodied musty tart malty flavor with fruity undertones. Obviously well aged, yet still wonderful. New version rated to follow in bold. Newer version (2003?). # 4 in my trappist tasting with Mkobes. Pours deep orange red, with a few fewer floaties. Perfect Trappist head again. More fresh earth aroma than the 8n year old version. Some raisiny fruitiness, with a musty, tobacco undertone. Fruity raisiny flavor, with tobacco undertones, that is nice, yet not as aged, obviously, as the first. This ages well and is well worth paying hundreds of dollars a case. Nuff said

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. Very dark brown, with a beige head. Oat and berry aroma, thick and ominous. Sweet, fruity taste, firm, full-bodied. Alcohol creeps in on the finish, before relaxing back to a sweet, malty flavour. Thick in the mouth, complex and balanced. Bubbly on the tongue. Superb beer, which has everything.

Pours a very dark brown. However, when held to a bright light, this beer is a bright cranberry red with tons of bubbles headed from the bottom of the glass to the mighty head. The froth is tanned/ toasted white bread, and evenly thick, but is gone within a minute. Aroma is strong and sumptuous with cinnamon, clove, prodigious malt, tangy grapes, caramel, yeast, and baked apples.Taste is full of flavor, with caramel, granny smith apples, drying clove spices, yeast, really big hops, and tongue sizzling high ABV (are you sure its not more than 7%?). Aftertaste is warm from the alcohol, with a pleasant dryness (herbal-like), spicy hops and loads or residual malt and yeast. Everything a good abbey should be. Lacing is medium to above average. Thank goodness for this beer, as my last 20 or so were real stinkers. Purchased at Chevy Chase Wine and Liquor in our Nation’s Capital, Washington, DC.

This pours with a significant , creamy, perennial head; raison, chocolate, and banana nose; it has a sweet, cocoabutter, nutty (walnut?) flavor that's a slightly tart in the finish; nice balance. Not overly complex; though I really like dubbels, this is one of the few that gives you alot without giving over-the-top, imposing funkiness that many others do. Drink mass quantities! Too bad it's so expensive, it'll be along time before I get another, myself.

Dark mohagony color with a dense rocky head. The fruity esters from the yeast combine wiht the rich malty aroma for an intense pleasurable sensation through the nose. The flavor is everything the aroma offers and more. Light in body and rich in flavor with an incredible balance of sweet, malty, and rich aromas and flavors.

Bottle: Excellent aroma. Very malty and tons of fruit. Lots of grape. Pours a dark hazy transparent brown with a huge off-white head with great retention. Flavor is very malty and fruity. Just like the aroma tons of grape. Light caramel. A little sourness in the finish blends well. Grape comes stronger in the finish and leaves a nice aftertaste. Very smooth. Better than the trippel. Excellent beer. Could drink this all the time.
