Pours with a deep amber body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with nice candy sugar notes, a little spice and a touch of hops. Full bodied, warming and slightly dry.

Very tasty intriguing Trappiste with fruity and winy palate. Some sweetish sugary notes.

Halfway thru the initial pour, I had already given it a 5 for appearance: beautiful, large, off white head over a cloudy, mahogany colored body. Yeasty, dried fruit, lightly spiced aroma. Compex mouthfeel added to the enjoyment, with tastes that incorporated spices, a range of fruits, some sourness, some bitterness, and some tartness. Alas, the end came too soon.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2004 330ml Bottle. A fine example of the Abbey Dubbel style. Rich dark brown colour, with a large head. Lovely lacing left on the side of my Chimay glass. Sweet and rich fruity flavours, with a hint of alcohol.

Huge rocky, pillowy head. Yum. Heavy malt and fruity on taste and aroma. Bananas and raisins. Hint of alcohol. Zesty on the tongue - spicy with lively carbonation. Hops emerge towards the finish and then slowly fade away leaving a nice trace of aftertaste. Wonderful!

Beautiful dark brown and think rich caramel head. As for taste, compared to the other trappist beers with its nice spicy slightly fruity palate. Well balanced alcohol, roast malts and hops.

Beer is a rather nice, Pepsi-Cola brown atop of which rides a substantial and billowy beige head of considerable foam. Nose has hints of molasses mingling with alcohol and fermenting old fruits. Palate is creamy, a bit stinging yet pleasant. Taste is rich and wonderful. Carbonation dances on the tounge as flavor notes of faint chocolate intermingle with overripe fruit and roasted caramel apples. Finish is sweet and lingering, yet creamy and biting all at the same time. Very good.
