4.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 nuplastikk (2445) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 19, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2007 One of the best, if not the best, dubbels out there. Creamy and smooth, yet fully robust and hearty at the same time. Moderate alcohol level works quite well with the dark malty tastes and aromas. Nutty, with a fruity raisin-like aftertaste. Minimal hops. A delicious Belgian ale.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 mbsmith (57) - Missouri, USA - AUG 29, 2011
bottle from Gomer’s Lee’s Summit out of a Westmalle glass purchased there as well. what can i say that hasn’t already been said? this is the dubbel by which i measure all others, which pretty much means that all others fall short. small, light brown head- not as much lacing as other bottles i’ve had. aroma is sweet bread and malt with hints of caramel and fruit. palate is soft but not creamy. carbonation is present but takes a back seat to the flavor. starts sweet and buttery and develops into dark fruits (plum, cherry, fig) that turn tart towards the finish with just a hint of hops lingering amongst the other flavors. wonderfully complex but very easy to drink. i love monks.

Pours a hazy mist. Reddish head, with scents of apples, berries, and nuts. Sweet flavor. Wonderful taste as well as a wonderful aftertaste. Would highly recommend.

750 ml bottle, bottled in june 2009. Very complex and hard to fully describe taste... It is not sweet at first for sure, it is woody, leafy, fruity, slightly tongue-tingling and bitter, there is some distant tartness, yeast and some undistinct discreet spicyness. And a long finish. Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous, better than I thought it would be! Legendary!
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 BelgianBeerMan (11) - , BELGIUM - JAN 13, 2009
Another GREAT trappist beer. One of my favorite Belgians. The Westmalle line of beers in my opinion are the best of the trappist. The dubbel is the best of the Westmalle. A must try beer...don’t buy just one...you will want more.

Bottle 330ml. Exceptional. Aromas of dough, caramel, and chocolate. Taste is subtle, sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Palate is velvety, smooth, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a frothy head.
