Flaske. Utrolig flot dybrød-brun farve. Ingen sedimenter men masser af smag. Gav endelig mening for mig.

Very good trappist, ideal for an afternoon in the shade, don’t drink too much though!

11oz bottle from Bevmo. Poured a dark brown with a bit of red around the edges. Head was khaki in color, ample and slowly faded to about 1/4 inch and held with plenty of lacing. Aroma was complex with walnuts, almonds, raspberries, toast and sweet caramel. The flavor mirrored the aroma, with a bit of hops at the back end. The mouthfeel was smooth, full and satisfying with lively prickly carbonation. The finish was long and smooth with a bit of biter hops lingering. Overall: this is an outstanding brew. Recommended.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sassenach (63) - USA - AUG 30, 2007
Pours a dark cloudy caramel color, with minimum head that lasts for a bit. There are particles hanging around as well. Smells instantly of grape wine, but with raisin and sweet malt ribbons. Tastes of prune, slight coffee, and cream, with traces of vanilla - all somewhat weak - and a small molasses finish/aftertaste. Very light bodied with little carbonation.
I’d like to ad that towards the end of the glass, the particles keep a muddy stance and give a great ending full of wheat bread and cinnamon and raisin.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hammster (187) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - OCT 6, 2007
33 cl bottle. Poured an opaque, deep, dark walnut brown and red with an inch thick head that looked like something on an expensive mocha. Aroma was milder than expected but still complex--cloves, raisins, all spice, and some other dark fruit. Wonderful lacing. The taste, like the aroma, is more subtle than expected. Sweet and dried fruit is noticeable--plum, apricot, and raisins. There is also a little roasted malt note to the flavor. The finish is decent but not what I expect from a trappist. Very good, but for the money I prefer something with not mere complexity but more intensity too.

Why have I always overlooked this beer? With some age I could see this being fantastic. Rochefort like characteristics with a nice lingering fruity finish. Highly recommend this for a common Belgian or any beer for that matter.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 flatmatt (737) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JAN 27, 2009
330 mL bottle, best by Jan. 23, 2010. Pours murky brown with an off-white head that subsides fairly quickly. Aroma is very strong, with sweet honey, caramel, cherry, dark fruit, and biscuit. Very promising. Flavor is equally sweet and dominated by honey and caramel flavors, with touches of cherry and grape as well as some light apple flavors. Strong carbonation. Finishes on a mild biscuit and raisin note. This is my new favorite dubbel.
