4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 trevor211 (922) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 26, 2008
Pours a deep murky brown with a thick, fizzy head. Aroma is remarkably similar to a quad. Dark fruits, baking spices - cloves and allspice, sweet malts and brown sugar. It has a great sweetness in the flavor, masking the alcohol very well. Perfect carbonation - enough to cleanse, but no more. Mild, but still very flavorful - this is great stuff when youre not in the mood for more of a palate bomb.

A dark, reddish-brown trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance of malt and leasves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a bitter finish. It is a balanced quality beer with a soft feel in the mouth and a long, dry aftertaste.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2008 33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. It poured a dark amber colour with a medium big beige head that settles down fast in the glass. The aroma smells of malts raisins, banana and alcohol. The flavour tastes of roasted malts, apples, plum, dark caramel and a hint of alcohol. It has a medium long aftertaste.

Pours a nice mahogany color with an off-white foamy head. Smell of yeast, sweet malt, and dried fruits. Flavor is more of the same, with a distinct taste of brown sugar and walnuts. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich for the style. Nice long, lingering finish. I can taste this for a while after I’m done! Excellent beer. Westmalle never disappoints.

Wonderfully caramel flavor with a lingering rasiny/spicey finish. How can you bash one of the cornerstones of the style?
