Bottle from Sand Bar, Manchester. Muddy brown colour, hints of red at the edges, and a frothy tan head that lasts throughout. Aroma of rich fruits - dried fig and date, raisins and plum. Fruit predominates the flavour with molasses/muscovado added. Sour undertones complement the sweetness. Lightly carbonated and surprisingly light in palate. Lovely.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a deep, murky reddish brown with a nice beige head. Aroma has notes of dark fruit, spice, light dark roast, musty, light signs of bread. Flavor of light malt, yeasty, light dark fruit, some dark toasted grain, spicy, notes of burnt caramel, musty, some farmhouse notes and a little bit of earth. Mouth feel is medium body with very lively carbonation. Overall, a very enjoyable beer!

Pours a hazy amber with just a bit of head that has a reddish tone. Smell is definitely caramelized sugar and caramel. Flavor is of caramel, caramelized nuts and hops. A good dubbel- don:t realize its alcohol content.

100th rate. Poured a deep red/brown, opaque, with a creamy tan head that had good retention. Subtle aromas of caramel with a bit of dark fruits. Taste was much more complex with mild cloves up front that were quickly pushed aside by the fruits, then caramels and molasses. A bit of chocolate was also detectable. Finishes slightly dry, with lingering sweetness and spices. Medium to full bodied, nice creamy texture with plenty of carbonation. A terrific beer.

Got this one from matsciguy - thanks man. Nice smooth aroma, clear brown sugar color, not too carbonated and the head was not too sticky or rocky and didn’t last. To me I tasted raisins and plums. Mild bitternes and light on the tongue. Very nice.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2008 Bottle shared with the Hinkle Monster at the Devonshire. Darker caramel-cola like pour, nice foam head. Slight Aroma of grapes like a fine wine. Light on the pallet, not thick or weighted down. Mellow and clear-smooth drinking Ale with a mild pleasant semi sweet finish.

In 2 words: completely outstanding. My first trappist beer. From bottlescrew bills, Calgary AB. Pours a dark brown with hints of red and purple. Looks almost like Pepsi or Coke. Aroma of fruity hops, sweet malts and slight bitterness. Taste is pretty unique and interesting. Nutty earth fruit flavour and malts which dance on my tongue. Overall, an incredible beer and a wonderful display of brewmanship from Belgium.
