thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 9, 2004 This bottle brew poured an extremely large head of foamy finely sized very long lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind a very good lacing. The wonderful aroma can be smelled from a distance of over 2 feet. It has notes of mild caramel malts brown malts some vinuousness and mild spices. The mouth feel is vinuois initially smooth and has an alcohol bite followed by a brown beer lingering taste. Very potent tasting. The flavor is a bit overpowered by the vinuousness of the alcoholic mouth feel. Notes of caramel dark malt roasted malts and port come to mind. A very interesting beer. A must try.
Strykzone (1019), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 11, 2008 What a good beer! Pours a dark brown with a tan head that hangs around a good while. It has that blotchy look like a bacterial growth. Flavors are cherry wood, yeast, coffee, dark fruit. Has a very nice zesty feel. Good! Cartoon_khaki (1120), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Oct 10, 2008 Dark darkl, amber with huge tan head. Sweat yeasty aroma with stewed fruit hints. Bit of red wine hints. Sweet flavour with a lot of yeast and musty dust. Acidic palate light chewy. Glad I got a couple of bottles. mikalooch (31), , New Jersey, USA Oct 8, 2008 Poured from bottle.Dark red with a nice tan head. Wonderful aroma, can smell caramel, fruit, bread. Malty sweet taste, with just the right amount of hoppy bitterness to balance it out. Very dry but enjoyable. Medium mouthfell, just right. Excellent overall. JesseM (406), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Oct 6, 2008 Updated: Oct 7, 2008330mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark burgundy with a huge tan head that eventually reduces to some nice fluff. Aroma is really nice, some Belgian caramalt, loads of yeast and fruity esters, candi sugar, and some more generic sweetness. Smells quite enticing. Flavour is really good, and not what I’ve come to expect from Dubbels. Lots of the sweet malty aspects upfront, met with some nice herbal hops, a touch of alcohol, and rounding out very sharply with a lot of yeasty dryness. Mild hint of banana. The fruity esters in this one are just great. Very sharp. Some leafy hops are present in the flavour too, but were absent in the aroma. Red grapes feature prominently, and lend a very pleasant and apparent red wine characteristic to this well crafted brew. Very nice stuff, and I look forward to more. thooper41 (235), USA Oct 5, 2008 11.2 oz bottle: pours dark brown with quick fading off white head, aroma has faint yeast smell aloong with hints of fruit, flavor is kind of weak has a light tasting base malt along with some raisons and along with that complex belgian twang thats hard to explain. pretty good beer but belgium has a lot more to offer.
