3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, courtesy of Stephan Erauw of the Oud Arsenaal, Antwerpen March 2005 who thought we might like to try something not on the menu. Sampled on the Eurostar heading through the Flemish countryside towards England. Hazy gold, thin lasting white head and good condition. Sweet and yeasty with a faint citric lemon fruitiness in the nose, grainily chalky and yeast bitter in the mouth with a low but still noticable lemon fruitiness, lingering dry chalky bitterness in the finish with a muted but refreshing citric tartness.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Definetely the least impressive Trappist beer. I shared this with aceofhearts. Cloudy golden color, malty nose that kind of reminds me of being in a brewery and smelling fresh wort. Like a weak triple. Second run.... Third run triple??? Oranges and yeast in mouth, very carbonated and a very dry finish that I didnít care for.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Maybe it loses something between Belgium and Japan, but I didnít find this very appealing and I have no idea how anyone rates this above a 4. Hazy pale-orange, lasting white head. Exceptionally dry but without much of a flavor to contrast with it...more of a hay/grassy flavor. Not like any other Trappist beer out there. Very slight banana/tangerine but I didnít think that it offered too much else. Chimay Black definitely wins the battle of "little trapist beers" for me.
Interestingly, the Japanese import label says 8% even though the bartender told us 5%.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Almost the same as the Westmalle Triple however, as expected about half the strenght, flavor, and aromatics. A very drinkable table beer that serves its ultimate purpose. A style that is nearly non-existant.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Hazy yellowish orange colour, small creamy beige head. Apricot in aroma along with malty hints. Dry apricot and some berries in flavour. Quite dry finish, weak berries in aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy orange, good creamy white head. Citrusy nose. Citrusy, hoppy, grassy, small brother of Westmalle Tripel. Grassy long aftertaste. Still need a couple of trappists to complete the list :)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottled@Akkurat) Very hazy, golden color with a small, tight head. Very crisp, dry-lemony-hoppy aroma with raisins. Lemony hops, some sweetish malts, rosemary, grapefruit, orange-peel, honey hints. Quite carbonated, very dry and crisp, light to medium-bodied palate. Maybe a bit too dry to be really refreshing. Still very pleasant for the ABV, and smoother than Petit Orval.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The monks own beer. Itís a golden light beer, with a big flower aroma, and have a fresh taste and have a lot of karbanation. But the beer itself is nothing speciel...

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light gold with a fluffy but short lived white head when poured into a De Koninck chalise with lots of lacing. Aroma is mellow malt and light straw. Taste is bitter yet crisp with some malty sweetness. Very lively mouthfeel. Lemon zest is there as well. Not bad.
