18/12/2010 - 33cl bottle @ Gentse Biervereniging - Trappist night

Note: First sampled without yeast, then with yeast.

Bright yellow beer, lots of carbon in glass, white creamy head, adhesive and stable. Aroma: hops, some flowers, agrum fruits. MF: lots of carbon, light body. Taste: hops and agrum fruits. Aftertaste: dry hoppy, a little citrus. Adding some yeast from the bottle. Aroma has clearly changed, yeast is present. Also the taste has gotten a bit more complex and solid.

Light yellow colored with little white head, cloudy appearance. Lemony and spiced, little bit of yeasty aroma with hoppy grass and fruits. Medium bodied. Flavor is also yeasty with same spicy and lemony tone, crispy carbonation.

A: The pour is a fairly clear straw color with a finger’s worth of an off-white head. S: A rather light, but enjoyable aroma. Pale cracker malts with some good hop aromas that give the beer a bit of a grassy and floral note. The yeast provides a slight spice, too. T: The hops are surprisingly vibrant in this beer. Floral and grassy qualities come through as well as a mild bitterness. Some spicy esters from the yeast as well as a bit of citrus peel. M: The body is on the light side, but the high carbonation and rather dry, crisp finish works well for me. D: This serves its purpose well: an easy to drink table beer. I wasn’t initially too crazy about it, but as I allowed it to sit in the glass for a moment, I found it quite enjoyable.

Bottle from a direct Belgian trade with BelgBeerGeek. Not sure of vintage, bit it expired in February of 2010. Purs cloudy light grapefruit with abundant generous cloud topping, and leaves lacing. The yeast has a fruity and also a funky aroma, altogether an attractive and quality smell. Mouthfeel above average, carbonation right there. A yeasty pineapple orange mango conconction. Great stuff.

330ml bottle thanks to Joris !
Appearance : Clear pale yellow with a huge foamy head.
Aroma : Quite yeasty and citrusy. Light phenols with malt. Slightly rustic.
Taste : Light yeast with light malt. Finish slightly bitter and very dry. Carbonation is fizzy. Slightly rustic and herbal maybe. A little bit dusty on the finish. A little bit astringent on the finish.
Overall : Very light beer with with some interesting depth. Nose is very nice. Gets better as I’m drinking it. Great summer drink. Quaffable. Very very dry. Very interesting beer. I don’t think I’ve had many beers as light and drinkable as this while having such depth.Nose a bit better than taste. Great brew !! Dank u wel Joris !!
