Dit huisbier van de trappisten beschikt over de fruitige geur en het bouquet van zijn grote broers. In de smaak valt hij echter toch wat door de mand. Het heeft maar weinig body, maar wel een lekkere, bittere afdronk.

330 ml bottle thanks to Papsoe. No label. Pours a totally opaque straw color with a large foamy white head. The aroma is sweet dry grasses, spicy hops, some dry dusty notes. The flavor is very good; sweet malts, very dry, spicy hops throughout, some fruity flavors, pear and apples. Very quaffable. Quality.

Charles warned me that this would be ordinary, and he was correct. Light straw colored, medium white head, solid lacing. Aroma of hay and citrus. Taste is dry and bitter, with a very light body. Good choice for routine consumption by those who must stay awake and focused.

6th June 2010. RBESG 10 Grand Tasting at the Brasserie 4:20 warehouse. Second time I’ve had this overrated Trappist swill. Hazy pale gold beer. Good frothy white head. Watery wheaty malt and dry palate. Just rubbish and would be called so more often if it wasn’t for the reverence the brewer is held in!

Shared this bottle with PapaEugene during our beer drinking session last evening. Was quite eager to try this one, because it is the table beer of the Westmalle Monks, and is normally not for sale (besides on draft in the beer pub attached to the Westmalle Brewery). Poured into an Urthel glass. The beer pours a dark gold-yellow color, with a smooth, bright-white head that was relatively long lasting. The scent is like fresh fruits (apple), a bit floral and some tones of sweetness. The taste is completely different from the scent. Wow, quite cool for such a light beer. The taste in not at all as fruity as the smell suggested. Sweet honey, spicy hops and a great, very well balanced acidity and bitterness in the end. The mouthfeel is very light, but also very good, with medium-low carbonation. Light and drinkable. Overall, a surprisingly tasteful beer for a Trappist table beer. Again the Trappist brewers prove, that the best beers are not too complex, are well balanced because of a long lasting history, and especially don’t need too many ingredients! Simpl(y)e the best! I want more....
