4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 28, 2010
In short: An ultra refreshing fruity flowery Belgian blonde ale. Ideal session beer.
How: Bottle 330ml. From JorisPPattyn cellar, thanks a lot Joris. Exact age unknown. Tasted fresh to me.
The look: Cloudy dark yellow body topped by a medium white head with good retention
In long: Nose is very bright with citric notes. Body is quite sustaining for a 5% brew and the carbonation is ultra-lively, almost too much. Taste has plenty of refreshing tropical fruits, dandelions, fresh bakery white bread, a light minerals/salty sensation, astringent citric finish, mild bitterness. This is not a beer that makes you go wow! on each sip. This is a beer I wish I could session on a regular basis. Great beer. I’m glad we still have monks brewing quality beers. I’m personally a atheist, and God does exists he will pardon me, that’s his job.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 23, 2010
330 mL bottle purchased online from belgiuminabox.com, served in a branded Trappist glass. Pours hazy blond with a tall, pillowy white head. Head fades but laces well. On the nose, aromas of grass, citrus, yeast and some spice. Makes me think of pilsner. Flavour is slightly sweet up front, but becomes bitter towards the end. Finish is long and dry. On the palate, light in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. The finish is moderate in length and slightly astringent. Not bad overall, but nothing to write home about. I wonder why the monks of Westmalle don’t distribute this more widely--it rounds out their range quite well. 2010-05-23
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 konstifik (573) - SWEDEN - MAY 23, 2010
Unclear straw color, diminishing white head. Slightly funky, dry, hoppy grass aroma. Dry taste, almost tart. Light body. Would be a nice everyday-beer if it was available here.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Abio (1058) - Waasland, BELGIUM - MAY 2, 2010
Bottle at home, thanks to Herman! Pours out golden, lightly orange. Nice big white head that holds very nice, and forms beautifull when going down. Very foamy. Nice sweet-spiced aroma with some citrus/oranges inside. Something earthy-bread inside aswell. Soft sweet taste, sweeter-fruitier then expected. Some honey-cirtus-herbs inside. Nicely done, but misses something extra for me. Goes inside very well, a beer that I could enjoy more often for sure. Surprise that this beer is so soft of taste, just misses a bit of stronginess, some body.
