PolishHammer (48), , Connecticut, USA Jul 3, 2009 A nice tripel, but more acidic and spicy than I prefer...as a result, I think I prefer Chimay, but I need to try a few more trappist tripels. Color typical yellow-orange and hazy. Lemongrass aroma, taste follows with a bit of grain, cereal, honey, and a tad medicinal. A licorice type of burn on the finish. Overall, a nice complex tripel that I definitely enjoyed. No way this drinks like a 9.5%..well spiced, not too sweet. Go monks! mcdav2154 (55), Germany Jul 2, 2009 .33l bottle. Poured a nice hazy yellow and the head on this beer made me blush!! For the smell and taste, once again I had to go to the wife’s spice rack to figure this one out. Cardamom was pretty close and bitter citrus was prevalent. The aftertaste was very bitter like a grapefruit and burned a bit like it too. Not really a huge fan but I’m glad I tried it. Not an every week drink but likeable and I’ll drink it again. jrallen34 (67), Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2009 Drank from a bottle in Brussels.
I like this one less than the Dubblel but better than the quad. Sten (279), Westerlo, Belgium Jun 28, 2009 Updated: Jun 29, 2009Hazy orange coloured beer with a nice white head. Fresh spicy aroma.Flavour is sweet, spicy, yeast and very alcoholic. (Bottle 33cl) groovinhigh (170), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Jun 28, 2009 Not my favorite of the Belgium Tripels, but obviously one of the better beers in the world. A little too much alcohol in the finish for me, but a wonderful aroma and dry and spicy upfront with a nice spicy undertone. Listigovers (40), Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2009 Bottle. A very nice golden beer. Everything about it was nice and well done, but its lack of a long aftertaste hurt the beer for me. The flavour up front is nice, the mouthfeel is very clean and crisp, and the finish is clean with little alcohol presence despite the 9.5%. Overall a very good beer, but an average trippel. jacare (20), Hinsdale, Illinois, USA Jun 21, 2009 I’ll start out with the fact I took a couple of sips and did a sink pour on this one.
Sour and awful. I don’t get it. Then I took the rest of the bomber and tossed it out.
Then I drank a Hoegaarden to get the awful taste out of my mouth. oteyj (549), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jun 20, 2009 Honey pour with a beautiful head that forms a mountain of frothy goodness. Aroma is loaded with sharp citrus and spices. Clove, grapefruit, and a very defined and unique yeast character provide for an enjoyable sniff. Flavor is citrus to the max with excellent yeasty spice character that lasts nicely through the finish. Citrus is multi faceted and expertly balanced. Palate is full for the style, ending clean and very dry. A very well put together creation.
