Hammy78 (441) - Dundas, Ontario, CANADA - APR 2, 2011
Bottle from Zyn Calgary, poured into a trappist glass. Pours a hazy gold colour, really nice pillowy white head initially, that recedes to a ring and a little climbing lacing (but not much). Aroma is spicy a little boozy and bread, and some fruit. Taste is spicy again. and sweet, fruity, a little bite a little bitter and a dry finish. What more could you ask for in a beer?

33cL bottle in Brussels. Pours a golden yellow with a very nice thick foamy white head. Smells of banana, yeast, and alcohol. Taste is of pepper corn, alcohol, and spice. Hides alcohol well but feels warm going down. A classic tripel. Excellent.

750 to tulip. Floral with a sour note. Taste is sweet. An excellent beer.

Golden beer with a creamy white foam. Overwhelming, exotic scent of dried fruits, apples, spices and honey. Not quite as opulent and rich in the mouth, where a finely tuned, slightly drying bitterness gives the beer a perfect finish.

Bottle, poured into a weizen glass. Creamy head, white with moderate lacing. Turbid body with an impassioned fizz. Particulate matter notable in the pour. Amber hue with hazy appearance - almost reminiscent of an orange or maple cousin to the mystical Victorian absinthe. The aroma teases the imbiber with an undertone that is delicately sweet, nestled beneath a predominant aroma of fresh bread. The palate is oily with a muffled effervescence. The finish borders on slightly chalky. The taste is tantalizingly bitter, with the alluring hint of a flirtatious sweetness, and fresh herbs. Like a number of quadrupel beverages characteristic of the Belgians that I have tried, this libation carries with it the suggestion of anise or liquorice. The finish is pleasantly lengthy and warming.

poured into a snifter. pours a gorgeous straw yellow/orange with a huge white head that hangs out for a while. Aromas of spices are the lead, with honey and grapes close behind. Outstanding carbonation. The honey flavors are definitely present. Tons of spices in this as well. Tastes like fall, with its hints of apples and pears and spices. Warms the mouth with its complex flavors. As with all trappists, try it.

Bottle: I was expecting a little more flavor. That being said, this is a great, easy drinking beer. It just does not seem that complex to me. I have no idea how someone, anyone, could not really like this beer.

Good, but after having some of the other stronger abbey ales, it’s not the best. Reminds me of Chimay’s cinq cents but a little different. Nose is spicy and yeasty with a touch of sweetness and fruit lingering after. Flavor is citrus, plum, spice, alcohol, yeast, and slight malt. I definitely enjoyed this one but prefer some of the others I’ve tried. One more trappist checked off the list.
