4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2015 New bottle bought in Belgium. Poured into a regular beer glass. Slightly cloudy golden with a big foamy head, that stays around. Fruity aromas and a bit of sweetness, that is countered by the somewhat bitter finish and a good bit of boozyness. My favorite tripel so far ( tried all the belgian trappist offerings plus a few more) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured into a trappist glass. Golden color with a frothy white head. Sweet aroma to it, getting lots of the yeast fruitiness, banana, stone fruit, some raisins, herbs. Tasted sweet and malty, also here lots of fruity flavours, bit of marzipan and a bit of bubblegum. Medium full body and slick texure, soft carbonation. A fantastic tripel!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Hazy orange body with an ample white head. Smell is strong yeast manifesting as banana and light spice. Alcohol as well. Taste is less sweet that I would have expected based on the aroma. Hefty banana taste with some sugariness, but it quickly drops off leaving a bitter yeasty finish. Very dry finish. Seems like high carbonation because of how quickly it drops off. Deceptively light tasting, but the alcohol never subsides. Tripels are not my style, but this is about as good as it gets from a tripel.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle. Pours a slightly opaque golden orange with a two finger, bubbly white head and carbonation streaming from the center of the glass. Aroma is fantastic. Spice, Belgian yeast, and non-sweet candy sugar. Taste is balanced. Candy sugar and bubble gum to start, then into spice, banana, and darker sugar, then a warm, spicy ending. Very nice. Medium-full body with a high carbonation. Slightly syrupy in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall a great tripel. Lots of spicy yeast, and candy sugar.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
I gave it try and tried open my mind
but I don’t get it.
This one is not for me.
Chems, soap, diesel and strong alcohol with a finish of old school kids medicine.
Perhaps if you have the history and exposure you’ll get it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The foam is nice white, rich and persistent. It has a nice fermented aroma with clear traces of coriander and citrus fruit (both orange and lemon). Coriander and citrus predominate in the spicy taste. Palate is very large and also has a pleasant sweetness that stands in nice contrast to the spicy / sour. The finish is long, soft and rounded without too much bitterness. The alcohol should probably be assumed to be aggressive, but to spicy dishes, I think it will be great good.

In a long string of Belgian ales, I’ve finally had one that comes from, well, Belgium. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say the Belgian ales have a superior taste, it’s hard to argue against their physical beauty. Westmalle’s Tripel is sublime in the looks department. Golden body with pure white suds. Some lovely aromas here, too. Fruit, earth, malt, candy, and booze. Sound fantastic, right? It is. Banana, grass, malt sugar, clove, citrus - lots of highly palatable complexity. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth. Is it weird to say this beer feels good in your mouth? Because it does. Whatever. I’m not ashamed. If you love the lighter-colored, brighter Belgian exports, get yourself this one.
