djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy golden color with a large frothy white head that lasts awhile and then leaves behind very sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma is floral hops and banana. The taste is a very dry citrus and the alcohol is very present with this one. A complex abbey tripel from Westmalle. armando629 (956), Budapest, Hungary Aug 1, 2008 After the cheepbeerday i have this...Fantastic, complex beer! Delicious appearance with a hazy golden color and a nice white and stable head. The nose is spicey about coriander, liqueric alcohol perfume, tons of fine hops. The taste is complex like the body with a high gravity with spicey flavor, strong and good balanced hops like the high percentage alcohol:liqueric but moderated, not owrepowered. Smooth but powerful character, dry taste on the palate, nice dry aftertaste.Yum! Please, give me some more! SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jul 31, 2008 Pours a hazy straw color with alot of carbonation. Aroma is nice and clean, very fresh. Taste is rather dry with some nice spice flavor. I really enjoyed this brew and also had nice aftertaste. Simcoe (5), , California, USA does not count Jul 31, 2008 Ester profile is unlike more widely distributed Trappist high gravity beers. Westmalle yeast seems to have a reduced rotten-garbage-banana smell and increased fresh fruit aromas, maybe grape, maybe a small share of bubble-gum. Taste is refreshingly dry without being astringent. Nice hops in the finish. Definitely my favorite Trappist ale. 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 Wicked, wicked dry tripel. pleasant bubbliness or nice sugar notes at all. Big crazy belgian head of white dense froth. Looked very cloudy and suspiciously dead yellow. Smelled of strong grains and stale crackers. Tasted like licking the inside of a grain silo, with overpowering raw grain and minerally taste and aftertaste and super dry, need some chapstick finish. If this were the only beer around, I’d be drinkin water. Sorry guys Ceebs25 (217), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Bubblegum, alcohol, straw, interesting aroma, but I’m not into it. Ridiculously big, jumping out of the bottle, white bubbly head, very opaque, orange-blonde color, lot of particulate. Flavor steps the experience up a bit, pretty nice hoppy, citrus, some spice, grass, fairly wet finish, sweet and light belgian style malt in the middle, some alcohol at the start, medium body, I really like the finish. Was not appealing at first, but it grew on me, still not one of my favorites though. urraca (44), New Jersey, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours a solid, opaque-hazy orange. Very large and bold head. Citrus dominates the aromas as well as hints of flowering hops. Flavor has a nice balance of sweet and spices and tastes of orange peel. Finish is rather strong. Very solid Tripel though, however, I prefer St. Bernardus’ EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Jul 26, 2008 Starts with that nostalgic and pleasant aroma of banana and mixed fruit baby food, with a less banana and lighter overall than most of this variety I have experienced. Had a very complex flavor that makes me want to try again, some spice and also a bit of scotch whiskey. It was also a bit sour for my tastes and this lowered the score, but it may have been just this bottle so must try again.
