COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong, dry and spicy trappist ale. The product of a secondary fermentation lasting 5 weeks. This is a complex ale with a fruity aroma and a nice nuanced hop scent. It is soft and creamy in the mouth, with a bitter touch carried by the fruity aroma. An exceptional ale, with a great deal of finesse and elegance, and with a splendid long after taste.

Bouteille 33 cl - couleur dorée trouble, odeur très complexe à identifier, portant sur le houblon, goût: fruité, amertume sur l’alcool et sur un goût floral

Note: well, finally. This is one of those beers I’ve been procrastinating for years, and often when I had one, I didn’t have my notebook with me, the conditions weren’t optimal for rating (going out at night, e.g.), or I just didn’t feel like it, and I put it off, knowing there’d always be a next time I’d be drinking this. Well there, after more than 6 years of rating beer, I finally did the Westmalle Tripel. :p

Clear dark blond to orange beer, thick creamy off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sweet, ripe banana, bit spicy, coriander touch. MF: lively carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit sweet in the start, ripe banana, yeasty, bit sugary, spicy notes. Aftertaste: pretty bitter and dry, still some sweetness lingering through though, some alcohol. With right and reason the mother of all Belgian (and international) Tripels.

Unclear light orange gold. Lasting frothy white head. Yeasty. Banana. Dark fruit. Caramel. Bready crust. Peppery/spicy. Alcohol. A lighter full, soft body makes for a satisfying and easy drinking experience.

Bière jaune trouble avec une mousse bien épaisse et très blanche. Pas très généreuse au nez elle dégage une petite amertume en bouche.

Bottle 330ml. Yellow-brownish with a white fluffy head. Lots of yeast in the bottle, didn’t pour the whole lot into the glass. Bitterness like cloves or coriander with some light hops in the aroma. Taste is ripe fruits like bananas and pears. Smooth mouthfeel. The aftertaste of the bananas lingers very long.

Sometimes you should go back to basics. Everynow and then I come back to this one. Beutiful tripel with a fantastic white head. Powerful yeast and malt aroma. Really balanced taste. Refreshing and yet very intresting beer. I know this gets even better with age.

Multiple 75cl, 33cl and draught pours over the years, most recently 75cl shared at Bier mit Stil 1: Tripel@Bierhandlung Feb 2016. - Bref: a Belgian Hefeweizen on jenever steroids. - The banana, clove and fusels are strong in this style-defining tripel launched by the monks in 1932 taking their supposed cue from Slaghmulder. - Remains dry, while warming and oily, transporting baked banana flambéd with jenever, warming in the throat, mouthfilling liked spiced nectar. Late white peppery hops and a straight astringency which could either be those Belgian grassy hops or yeast on pale malts. - Overall this is quite a simple beer: high-octane pilsner malts do a jenever rendition of an Imperial Hefeweizen. - Not quite my style within an already less favourite octane-high style that does have its merits and couldn’t be more Belgian (merci Vander Velde).

Served in a snifter from a bottle. Pours clear golden colour with a big remaining off-white head. Aroma is a typical Trappist combination of caramel, bread, yeast, but this one has a strong alcohol presence laced through very clearly. Taste is bread, yeast, peppery and again, very alcoholic with a lingering bitter-sweet finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Far too heavy alcoholic presence from start to finish makes this beer not very enjoyable.

Yellow beer with white head. Aroma and taste aren’t very strong. Nothing bad, but wanted stronger flavours and aroma. Very refreshing for a 9,5%.

Clear golden with a big fluffy white head. Plenty of funky Belgian aromas going on, flavour follows with ripe banana, yeast esters, bread, stone fruit... Alcohol quite present. Lovely.
