JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Feb 13, 2008 I was checking how many of the Top 50 Widely Distributed Beers I had rated. Lo and behold, here was another one I’d drunk many times without ticking. But come on, I don’t rate from distant memory. So I had to go out tonight and drink a new one. Well, what do you know? It’s excellent. poured golden into the goblet with a tall, white head. Pretty. Nose of oranges and spices and booze and hops. Sweetish, orange-tinged flavor rolls into a wall of bitterness, nestled around an alcoholic center. Slighty dry and bitter finish. Warming. Nice. Serious. Available as any slut, but still hot. joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 11, 2008 straw colored and hazy, only a slight white head. not a strong nose. flavor is tremendous with hints of candy sugar and sweet malty esters. finishes with a nice hop balance and some very nice alcoholic complexity. the only negative is it finishes with a little bit of a dry sourness. overall a great tripel, one of my favorites Beaver (588), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 11, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a huge frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet corny malts with some lightly spiced grassy hops and some alcohol. It’s almost malt liquorish.
The flavor is sweet malts with a decent grassy hop finish and some spices (coriander). The is some noticeable alcohol in the finish and becomes pretty hot as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium to full with decent carbonation.
Overall, I’ve had much better Tripels. This was too strong in alcohol, overly sweet, and pretty simplistic.
Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 10, 2008 Aug. 2006 - Really neat appearance. Crystal clear until the yeasties were poured in...then it was like a reverse mushroom cloud for a few minutes until the cloudiness took over. Nice head and lacing. Flavor is typical trippel, spices and fruity. Really carbonated and "unsmooth" mouthfeel was a serious detractor. Nice flavor, sweet with hoppy tart finish. ogreface (291), Budapest, Hungary Feb 8, 2008 0,33 ml bottle.Sötét arany színű szép tömött habbal.Illatában érezni a komlót amit a pilseniekhez is használnak.Íze igen összetett gyümölcsös és "gyógyfüves".Valamit tudnak ezek a trappisták! ScotYankBard (16), USA Feb 8, 2008 Another good Trappist brew. Though often overrated (Trappist brews) this one is among your top choices. Forget the Orval (unless you love hops) this is up there with Chimay. I may even enjoy this more than Chimay on some days.............no not really because I love me some Chimay Blue. If you haven’t had a Trappist because friends have said they’re not worth the price with this one you can’t go wrong. thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Feb 7, 2008 330ml bottle: pours golden light brown with a slight haze and white heade, aroma has an interesting smell to it malty but yet complex with other sweet smells. flavor is almost like orval lots of complex but suttle but with an added twist with more flavor that i like better. very well made beer i was expecting a dark beer like st.B and rochefort but this is closer to duvel and orval. would say on par with duvel and better then orval. well done. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Feb 6, 2008 Hazy yellow color with a rocky white head. Classic yeasty, spicy, earthy tripel aroma. Medium body and smooth. Fantastic taste same as the nose with a slight vinous, earthy flavor with nice spicy, yeasty, herbal essence. Finishes crisp and clean. An excellent Tripel . 81705
