JCB (1715), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 13, 2007 Extremely crisp tripel, with a dry straw-like finish. A light orange pour, with very fine lacing and solid retention. Nice flavors of spice and subtle malts (which thankfully don’t get in the way), with citrus notes and a bit of pepper in the finish. Bitter but still quite warming, an excellent Trappist ale. mleary (5), USA does not count Dec 12, 2007 11.2oz bottle dated 10/04/09. Poured a nice hazy orange color but with a lot of carbonation. Interesting flavor with wheat and citrus. Alcohol taste is definitely noticeable. Finish is sharp and fairly bitter. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Dec 12, 2007 Pours a beautiful golden brown color with a strong head and lacing. Smells of sweet hops with woody flavors with undertones of orange and apple. Has a calming affect that is really nice. Feels slightly warm and smooth in your mouth. Goes down warm and smooth. charcot25 (181), Cordova, Tennessee, USA Dec 11, 2007 Hazy gold with nice white Belgian lace. Has a fruity aroma. Spicy in the taste with phenolics of rose and honey. Moderate bitterness. Doesn’t finish as dry as I recall. When warmed, has a definite alcohol presence. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Dec 4, 2007 33cl bottle at De Baiaard, Amsterdam, 12-2-07. Clear gold with a a medium white head. Aroma is yeasty and sharp, with plenty of alcohol. Flavor is dry, yeasty, and spiced, with alcohol making itself known as well. Medium-full body with lively carbonation. I like the spiciness, and Westmalle definitely has the nicest of the trappist glasses, but the sharp alcohol keeps me from loving it. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Dec 2, 2007 Orange color with a cloud of spritzy white head. Aroma is lemon citrus, yeast, and malty sweetness. Flavor is refreshing despite the hefty weight of alcohol and the body. Flavors are wheaty, with citrus sweetness, and some spices followed by a dry finish without much bitterness. paco (204), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Dec 2, 2007 Aroma: Sweet malts. various fruits. Spicy floral notes.
Appearance: Dark yellow. Thin filmy white head. plenty of lacing.
Flavor: Spices. Very hoppy bitterness. You can really taste the alcohol.
Palate: Soft yet full bodied. Warming finish. RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 1, 2007 Had this beer on 4/9/2007. Aroma is a sweet fruity scent. Color is a bright gold with very good carbonation and nice head. Taste is fizzy, light and sweet. Starting off with a light/medium body and a fizzy mouth feel, it goes down crisp. Finish comes out of the fizzy feel with an easy malt fruit flavor then eases out with a nice mild hop flavor and an alcohol feel. On the very end it has a mild bitterness and leaves you with a nice classic abbey ale flavor. Overall it’s a wonderful brew. This has extra yeast and fruit flavors that make it stand out.
