UPDATED: MAY 10, 2010 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Very nice. The aroma shouts MALT, YEAST, MALT! The hops are an afterthought. Also detected a hint of black pepper in the nose. This sparkling beer has a nice, dark golden hue. The initial sip is moderately malty and lightly hopped. I detected a little apple and black pepper. Fizzy. The finish is just a touch sour, but mostly crisp, clean and dry. Very nice belgian beer. I’m looking forward to trying the dubbel as well. World class brew!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 loweredsixth (946) - Clovis, California, USA - APR 30, 2003
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2003 Pours a golden brightness with a long lasting white head...plenty of sediment floating around. The aroma was difficult for me to get at first, but then it came to me...green beans! Plenty of alcohol, green beans, yeast/bread/biscuit, and some clove (or bubblegum.) The flavor was similar to the aroma, but with no green beans, and a significant bitterness. Perfect bubbly, crisp feel with a dry, champagne-like finish.

Hazy orange-amber beer with chunks of sediment in it. It pours with a thick, white head that lasts the entire glass. The aroma sweet and fruity, with yeast, apricot, clove and banana notes prevalent. It is a very complex aroma that is reminiscent of some weizens as well as the standard triple smells. The taste is dominated by alcohol up front, which gives way to a very strong clove flavor. Sweetness fills in behind the alcohol fumes, which has hints of carmelized sugar and banana. A robust bitterness finishes off the flavor profile. A unique lingering aftertaste is also pleasant, and reminiscent of alcohol-laced bubble gum. The mouthfeel is very rich, and coats the tongue while still having a lightness to it due to the fine carbonation.

A most afforadable and easy to find Trappist. Very typical of the Trappist.... malty, aroma, spice and all from the yeast! No spices added in this Trappist.

What an abby tripel... head for several minutes with lacing for days.Spicy and sweet to start working toward bitter finish. Love the yeast (strong like bull). Overall a nice complex tripel with lots of character.

Dark yellow color with a really appealing smell of flowers and fruits. Heavy alcohol but it does not hide a complex and enjoyable taste worth of any trappist ale.

In the bottle. A delightfully large frothy long-lasting head, but not of high-end Belgian gargantuan proportions. Beer is a cloudy yellow color. First aroma is of yeasty bread dough, followed by a perfume. Slight citrus aroma at mid point. A medium palate with a strong alcohol burn. Average carbonation level and a good bitter aftertaste. Much better than the dubbel. Cheers!
