changeup45 (577), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 9, 2008 Pours a peach, orange, perhaps I could call it grapefruit color. Moderate head that tapers off pretty quickly. About a quarter of the way through just a patchy head remains that does produce some lacing. The aroma is pleasant consisting of fruits, some of the sweeter one’s such as oranges and some nice yeast. Semi tangy citrus flavor, yeasty and extremely easy drinking. There’s almost a clean watery note mixed in with the fruits. Nice amount of flavor but I’m looking for just a little more. Perhaps I’m being picky as I recently sampled various brews from St. Bernardus, Chimay and Rochefort but this one does carry the same price tag. I would never have known there was 9.2% alcohol in there if I didn’t look at the bottle. Quite refreshing too but if you’re drinking this you aren’t looking for something to slug down while sitting in the sun. As the beer warms it becomes a little more spicy with a sour grapefruit flavor and a banana note I didn’t detect earlier but still, I can hardly taste the alcohol. This is a great beer but it didn’t wow me.
swooper (90), Kladno, Czech Republic Oct 5, 2008 banana, bread, citrus aroma, golden, hazy, frothy, rocky head, medium bitterness, medium sweetness, full body, thick feel, fizzy, long finish, bitter, Ljunkan (140), Karlstad, Sweden Oct 4, 2008 Bottle. Hazy golden/orange color with a nice white head. Aroma is yeasty, very spicy with notes of orange. Flavour is sweet with lots of spices, fruit, citrus, green apples and orange with a slight bitterness at the end. Palate is quite filling with medium carbonation. It’s not that drinkable though, but still a quite nice sipper. Tripels is not one of my favourite styles and I think Chimay White is the best one still. It gets a bit too sweet and alcoholic after a while. JonnyDr (107), , South Yorkshire, England Sep 28, 2008 Gorgeous deep amber colour. Slightly overstrong start with honey, caramel and spiced notes. Sweet alcoholic finish. Too strong. mjs (576), Helsinki, Finland Sep 28, 2008 (Bottle, 0.75 l bottled 240408, at Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki, on 2008-09-27) Orange. Cloudy. Medium sized quickly disappearing white head. Citric aromas, yeast and some tiny hints of banana in very fruity nose. Medium bodied palate with quite lot of carbonation. Fruitiness, bitterness, grapefruit, malts and some salty liquorice. Long lasting fruity aftertaste. afireinside96 (493), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2008 330ml bottle served i a Trappist glass. Bottle erupted with foam when opened, hope it isn’t infected. Lots of sediment floating around in yellow-gold liquid topped by a lasting white head. Sugary nose with some spicy esters. Tastes of candi sugar, pepper, caramel. Very active carbonation, frothy mouthfeel, some warmth, drying effect. Very solid, but standard tripel.
