3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 27, 2011 Bottle. Poured a medium murky yellow almost gold in color with a huge (3 to 4 fingers) white frothy head that was fully lasting and had excellent lacing.
The aroma was of light grain malts, a piney hop and a mild soapy yeast with notes of dried fruit, banana, clove and a mild dose of alcohol.
It tasted a bitter-sour with hints of banana and clove throughout then had a mild fruity flavor with a slight pepper note and a rather heavy alcohol tinge at the end. The flavor stayed with you for nice long time allowing one to enjoy this brew well after the swallow.
Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and had a dry texture with a mild to medium carbonation.
Overall this Tripel was kind of fruity with a nice spice note and had a good kick to it at the end. Very Tasty!!!

Bottle 330ml. Yellow-brownish with a white fluffy head. Lots of yeast in the bottle, didn’t pour the whole lot into the glass. Bitterness like cloves or coriander with some light hops in the aroma. Taste is ripe fruits like bananas and pears. Smooth mouthfeel. The aftertaste of the bananas lingers very long.

Sometimes you should go back to basics. Everynow and then I come back to this one. Beutiful tripel with a fantastic white head. Powerful yeast and malt aroma. Really balanced taste. Refreshing and yet very intresting beer. I know this gets even better with age.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Multiple 75cl, 33cl and draught pours over the years, most recently 75cl shared at Bier mit Stil 1: Tripel@Bierhandlung Feb 2016. - Bref: a Belgian Hefeweizen on jenever steroids. - The banana, clove and fusels are strong in this style-defining tripel launched by the monks in 1932 taking their supposed cue from Slaghmulder. - Remains dry, while warming and oily, transporting baked banana flambéd with jenever, warming in the throat, mouthfilling liked spiced nectar. Late white peppery hops and a straight astringency which could either be those Belgian grassy hops or yeast on pale malts. - Overall this is quite a simple beer: high-octane pilsner malts do a jenever rendition of an Imperial Hefeweizen. - Not quite my style within an already less favourite octane-high style that does have its merits and couldn’t be more Belgian (merci Vander Velde).

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Served in a snifter from a bottle. Pours clear golden colour with a big remaining off-white head. Aroma is a typical Trappist combination of caramel, bread, yeast, but this one has a strong alcohol presence laced through very clearly. Taste is bread, yeast, peppery and again, very alcoholic with a lingering bitter-sweet finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Far too heavy alcoholic presence from start to finish makes this beer not very enjoyable.

Yellow beer with white head. Aroma and taste aren’t very strong. Nothing bad, but wanted stronger flavours and aroma. Very refreshing for a 9,5%.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear golden with a big fluffy white head. Plenty of funky Belgian aromas going on, flavour follows with ripe banana, yeast esters, bread, stone fruit... Alcohol quite present. Lovely.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
En bouteille. Belle couleur mais peu de mousse.
Arômes de vanille et de banane. En bouche c’est l’explosion de saveurs: c’est complexe, sucré comme il faut. puis le palais, long, peu amer, légère carbo et corps bien plein.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours light golden colour with dense foamy head. Funky trappist aroma. Soft creamy mouth feel combines with caramel, honey and vanilla as well as a sweet malt undertone. Long finish during which the subtle trappist funk returns. Subtle and light for a trappist but delicious.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Copper colored with a nice frothy head renewed by streams of carbonation. The body starts off rather dank, but after aeration, it blows forth a profusion of esters and stone fruits, such as strawberry essence, with some stale bread crust in the background. A yeast saturated body replete with esters, some bread crust, and stone fruit. A liquid yeast and sourdough finish, with notes of unripe banana skin and apple.. Definitely improves with aeration and warming.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2016 Cloudy yellow with nice white top. High carbonation, very nice in alcohol, complex but well balanced. Full body. Citrus and pepper, very interesting and so natural. High class. This beer undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The current formula has stayed practically unchanged since 1956, thus more than 50 years.
