COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Assignment by John Vanloo of San Francisco-based Waterloo Beverages LLC to develop & manufacture the Westoek Ale – 6% ABV at & by the Deca Brewery. Urbain’s Magnum hops for bittering, Styrian Goldings for different aroma hop gifts in the boil, late boil & flame out, Hallertauer Mittelfrueh for dry hopping.

Aroma is very fruity with some slight phenolics. Pear, apple, tropical fruit, light citrus and some floral esters. Medium light pepper phenolics with a slight plastic character. A touch of honey malt character. Pours a fairly clear gold with a big pillowy white head that is slightly thin and steadily recedes. Medium light lacing and no legs. Flavor starts with a very sweet malt note, slight honey and a bit of pilsner. Esters are moderate with citrus, pear and roses. Bitterness is moderately strong compared to malt character and there is a medium low phenolic note of pink pepper. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall the beer is alright, but definitely not amazing. The malt character is less than amazing but the ester and phenolics are nicely balanced with each other. The bitterness is a touch on the harsh side.

Lot n°25/20/2011, pours golden hazy with a medium white foam head. Typical tripel aromas (yeasty and cereals). Riped apple, honey flavours and lovely hops in aftertaste. Mellow palate, long finish. Good tripel.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 33cl bottle at home. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: clear blonde beer, very unstable white head, rather flat. Nose: malts, grains, some lemon, is this a pilsener? Taste: rather bitter, some lemon, little too dry for me, but only thing coming in my mind is that this is a pilsener... The least good Struise beer I had

Draft at Monks in April 2013. Clear gold pour. Large fluffy white head. Left unusual web lace. Nice dry floral notes. Sage. Lavender. Butter. Corriander. Toasted wheat. Green peppercorns. Tupelo honey. Apricot fuzz. Parsley. Lemon meringue pie. Interesting. Quite nice. Have had past versions of this that were not as good and felt a bit musty.

Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, thin white head. Aroma is grainy, some aged cider, slightly sweaty hops. Flavor is bitter, a hint of sour apple and a bit messy. Not bad, but not really my kind of brew.

Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Nose is sweet tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, banana, some spices like cloves and ginger and some light grassy notes. The taste is light sweetness with medium bitterness with the finish being mostly bitter. The mouthfeel is creamy, the body is heavy and the finish is long.

Yellow orange in color... Aroma of light Belgian malts, yeast... Flavor is yeasty, minimal citrus sweet notes, fairly grainy... Not that great...
