Bottle, bought @ EG.
Nice clear coppery golden colour with an even nicer, creamy, slightly off-white head. Great duration and fine lacings. Aroma is vinious, fruity, banana, apricot, bready malts and light esters. Medium carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour is lovely, good grassy hops on top of fairly crisp doughy malts. Fairly warming and with a firm bitterness in the finish. Nice.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at CBC. Pours a clear amber to reddish with a large yellow head. Nice formation and retention. Sticky malt nose with white grapes and honey. Fairly fruity. For taste, mild pine and resinous hops in the front, sticky malt through the finish. Like the others in this series, they donít really have the Abbey Tripel estery quality in the nose and the body is quite heavy, malty, and aggressive hoppy for this one at least. I like it better than the XXXX and 5-squared; but Iím still not sure what it is. Not really Saaz hoppy necessarily. No noble hop character I could detect. Still not the biggest fan of the X series.

330mL thanks to nimbleprop. The pour is a clear, deep amber orange with a healthy, white head leaving some big lace. Aroma is malty, oatmeally, heavy mace and cinnamon, lemongrass, something a little weird like celery. Taste is malty, toffee, oatmeal, much thicker and heavier than the Westoek X. Reminds me a little of a Biere de Garde. Pretty easy to love stuff albeit unmemorable. Glad Andy brought this back for us to try!
