rauchbier (2860), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Jul 21, 2004 Bottle, from Sainsbury’s. Straw coloured, no head and moderate condition. Much like the ginger version in that the initial aroma had suggestions of crap about it. Low lemon aroma develops with time. In the mouth it actually tastes like it has some cider in it, with a slight woody oakiness and a touch of apple skin but still a sweet lemon note keeps it in the realms of a novelty drink rather than a serious attempt to develop an interesting cider. Finish is slightly dry with a lingering sense that I have just wasted half an hour of my precious time on this swill. Still, it was better than the ginger version.
ciderguy (97), Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 20, 2003 Rarely if ever will I be this hard on a cider, but this stuff was outright foul! I did my best to try and finish a pint glass of it but couldn't stomach it. I tried again with some pasta, still no better. Bottom line this, for me, shall be avoided. It has a hanging taste which is best dribed as confusing. Perhaps lemongrass is not a sour addition to an already sweet taste, but rather a strong medicinal taste. Reminded me very much of scotch type drink. Has nothing to offer as far as the taste of cider, and following suit would be its aroma. I like Weston's cider, but this one just wasn't for me.
