Beautiful golden cider with an aroma that has sweetness and notes of both fresh and overripe apples and a hint of cellar. The flavour has sweetness, notes of sweet apples, hints of wood and it ends on a sweet note. It’s very aromatic and nice.

Tap - Canal House - Nottingham. I was disappointed to see just two real ales in this pub when I walked in; both of which I’d previously rated and didn’t warrant a rerate. Therefore chose this, expecting to dislike it. I was actually pleasantly suprised thoug. It’s golden in colour and has tons of fizz. The aroma is sweet and very apply. Again lots of apple in the taste with low carbonation and medium sweetness. Quite smooth and inoffensive, and not nasty as predicted. A superior mass produced keg cider.

Tap at Churchkey. Nice to see this comes in 2L PET bottles. Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Odd plastic aroma moving to diaper and then finally fresh apple. Taste is tart then heavy sweet with large dollops of sugar. Still, not cloyingly sweet. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Not too bad.

Tap. Pale orange-gold colour. No head and moderate carbonation. Aroma is very tannic and full of apple skins. Flavour has a bit of wildness, but in both appearance and aroma, it would be tough to separate this from Magner’s. Soft apple character with a light sweetness and a touch of herbal character. Quite a nice cider.

Bottle. Golden with a white foam. Aromas are fairly sharp apple with icing sugar and lemon. Chemical notes with hints of pear. Flavours are bittersweet green apple with sugar and a tart finish. Artificial to finish. OKish.

Bottle. Pale gold with a diminishing head. Aromas are earthy apple with some green apple tart notes and hints of sulphur. Flavours are initially sweet apple juice followed by citrus sour notes. Dry on the finish with some woodiness. Fairly decent.

Pours clear pale yellow with a white head. Aroma has notes of light sour apples. Taste is light sour and light sweet with a dry finish. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Keg, The Red Deer, Sheffield, 01/01/13. Pale fizzing green gold without a head. Rubbery somewhat industrial aroma. Better flavour with hints of sauce on gammon, light tannins, sparkling white wine, stomach cramps. Gut-rot: didn’t half finish a half.

500 ml can. BB 05/09/2013. (Prisma) Kuopio, Finland.
500 ml was too much for the cooking so I had the responsibility to get rid of the rest. Suits me. Clear pale golden colour with a small white head. The aroma is strangely buttery sweet with some apple and vinegar notes. Quite a mild aroma. The flavour is apple, some sweetness, mild caramel and earthy mouldy notes. Drinkable. Slightly watery.
