COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

(New Year’s Eve tasting Flight (1 of 3 7:30p)) Westvleteren Blond - Poured huge white snowy head that looks like a fine egg meringue. Slightly off-yellow body. Lots of bubbles coming up from the middle of the glass. Aroma of banana and yeast. Light body. Slight bitterness of hops. Yeast flavor characteristic somewhat grassy. I can see how this could easily be a session beer for the monks in the monastery. Hops linger on palate for a short amount of time. Wish this was regularly available at a less than extorsion price here on the Left Coast. :-)

Pours clear light golden with a white frothy/creamy head. Aroma of clove and fresh white bread. Mellow sweet and bitter flavor followed by a moderately bitter and lightly alcoholic finish. Light to medium bodied. Well balanced. (Bottle, courtesy of tarjei 12.12.2009)

12oz bottle... Pours a hazy golden hue with a thin milky white head... Aroma of apricot, pear, and lighter fruit. Yeast esthers and sweet tea also prevail... Sweet apricot and yeast flavors that finishes on a dry note. Sweet and musty.

I’m thinking about becoming a monk, this blond is one of the best I could even imagine. It’s light in color, and palate, but hoppy and has just the perfect carbonation to support it’s role as a supremely drinkable, never offensive beer.

Bottle poured a hazy golden yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of straw , spice, pear and light pineapple. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, pear and light spice with a smooth dry finish.

11.2 oz. bottle. Kicked off a night of drinking with shawnm213 with this, and it didn’t disappoint. Pours a murky gold color with a nice big, even, creamy white head. Pleasing aroma of yeast, sugar, earthy hops, citrus, straw, herbs, spices (especially clove), biscuit, and melon. Malty, biscuity, melony flavor, with a nice blend of spices (clove and pepper), earthy notes, hops, and sugar. A note of citrus shows up late. Medium bodied, with gentle carbonation. Very clean, earthy character. Complex, well-balanced, and tasty. I’ve never had anything better with ’Blond’ on the label, even if it’s called a Belgian Ale here.
