COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

Wish I could drink this every day like the monks... Big white head and hazy golden color. Big carbonation with continuing bubbles. Aroma is complex with faint brett/dry yeast character and subtle noble hops. Some delicate stone fruitiness also. Flavor mirrors aroma with light malt balanced with lingering bitterness. Very complex and supremely balanced!

Bottle graciously shared by a friend for my 2500th rating. Clear gold pour with a few chunks and a huge white head. Aroma is esters with banana, honey, citrus and pepper notes. Honey hits the palate first, then pepper and banana before finishing with a grapefruit bitterness that does not taste like it comes from hops.

Pours yellow, cloudy, small head. Aroma of honey, malt and yeast. Flavor is malty, slightest hint of bitterness, spices. Finish is really enjoyable, spicy.Low carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Overall a really enjoyable beer.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2012 A great beer. Completely different from the 8 and 12, but one of the best blond beers you’ll find! I love this one!! Update 01/01/12: 33cl bottle at home. Bottled 6 months ago. Love the fruity, citrus aroma’s. Hoppy, easy drinking. (Rating stays the same)

The beer pours a light to medium cloudy gold. The head is white rises about a finger but is gone quickly. The lacing is light, not much there. The aroma is outstanding. It is honey and tart and with hops. Its really nice and crisp and brings you in right away. The taste is really good, but a notch below the flavor as it doesn’t carry over the same flavors. Its little sweet with some hops, reminds me a tripel but a better version. The mouthfeel is surprsing good and this is very drinkable

Alright folks, to all of you who love the 12, the 8/BLonde is AMAZING. I loved it. It had a sour flavor with some sweet wheat attached. I loved it, If I could have gotten 10 crates to bring home I would have in a heartbeat. It’s wonderful stuff. It was just amazingly unique beer. I would not pay tons for it if I could get it in the USA, but it’s still great and worth a try for sure.

06/08/11 Date on the cap. Courtesy of megriggs and shared with Armin. Thanks! Nice hazy straw pour with a bone white head and slightly chunky lacing. Aroma is yeast forward, with some nice white grapes. Very nice! Taste is somewhat disappointing after the aroma...on its way out perhaps? More belgian yeast, a hint of spicyness and some interesting esters. Flavors are subdued and muddled. Fairly dry finish. Not a bad beer, but would love to try this one right off the bottling line!

Bottle, thanks Caleb! Date says 6,8,11. Pours very hazy yellow, nice white head. Aroma is nice biscuit, flowery, some grass. Taste is a bit downhill, notes of some cardboard come through, but overall has nice malt and hop notes.
