COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Westvleteren has the smallest output of the Trappist breweries, with only a small part of their production going very far into the world.

Big burnt fruit flavors, mainly plums and grapes. A strong beer at around 9%, but still deceptively drinkable. Not as good as the 12, but still one of the best beers I’ve ever had.

Bottle to celebrate my first ratebeer anniversary. Pours hazy brown with diminishing fizzy head. Aroma has dried fruit, caramel and leather. Alcohol becomes apparant later. Flavour has more dried fruit and toffee held together by strong but warming alcohol. Mouthfeel is fizzy, quite high carbonation. Finish is boozy and slightly dry.

Aroma is dark fruits, red apples, syrup, cocos. Aroma is very like that of westvleteren 12. Greyish brown sewage lika apperance, white head. It is a bit sweet and alcoholic, without beeing too sweet or too alcoholiv. Medium body, creamy low carbonation.

The mouth feel is one of a kind...explosive. It is not 10 or 12 but I will gladly spend the $6 a bottle. Every time. All those fruit and dried fruit combinations that the seniors have, on a session level. Great.

330ml bottle poured in its own chalice. I’ve kept this beers stored for almost three years before open it. Best before 7th of June, 2011. Consumed at 15th of March, 2012 in perfect condition. Completely alive beer :) A: Pours a nutty brown color and a big light beige head. Fizzy and "alive" carbonation. Good retention, it never disappeared leaving a thin small bubbled head. No lacings and a lot of dark particles floating around S: Very bready. Very yeasty. Fruity, but moderate on these regards. Caramel malts. Hints of roasted malts. Toffee. Hints of alcohol T: Follows the nose: Brown breauud, caramel malts, toffee, dark fruits, Belgian yeasts. A bit sweet upfront and a very moderate bitterness. Alcohol sensation M: Medium creamy and bit molasses body. Moderate carbonation O: Honestly: Fantastic beer! Despite of the hype around Westys, there’s no way to deny that, this is a just another perfect beer made by the Sint Sixtus monks [ BA Review @ 10/30/2009 ]

I would leave all my other ratings (forgive me Abbey de Scourmont) where they are. This beer maybe even a bit sexier than the Abt 12 Godfather version. Full of so much passion and decadence, this beer blows every other beer to wayside.

2000 vintage, sampled 03/2004 - dark brown colour, nice creamy head and a wonderful lacing, gingerbread and chocolaty aroma, notes of raisins, sweet, very creamy and malty, robust bitterness, very long dry aftertaste of bread, malt, dried fruits and warming alcohol - incredibly complex and deeply balanced
