17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 13, 2009 From de Vrede cafe. Amazinly rich nutty yeasty dark fruit aroma (yea I should have taken better notes but I was too busy enjoying the moment). Pours a darker glowing brown with a fizzy head. Obviously quite young and needs some time, sweet molasses, nutty, some dark fruit, slightly bitter but not nearly like the 12. This beer was exceptionally drinkable. Medium bodied, a bit sticky with ample fizzy carbonation. travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 11, 2009 The smell is fruits, figs, dates, yeast, malts, candi sugar, sweetness, and dried fruits. The look is an amber color, cloudy in look, great tan head. The taste is sweet, candi sugar, yeast, belgian, raisans, malts, and fruits. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Mar 7, 2009 Brown in color with a good sized beige head. Aroma is of malt, toffee, licorice, caramel, candi sugar, raisin, and banana. Taste is of raisin, plum, malt, spices and candi sugar. Palate is perfect...medium bodied, great carbonation and a medium dry finish. BMan1113VR (2758), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 7, 2009 Bottle thanks to jkwalking05. Bottle marked 20-09-10). Pours with a fluffy, light tan head that sticks over a deep, hazy, amber brown body. Great lace. Aroma is banana, licorice, light alcohol, plums, yeast, dried fruits and candi sugar. A bit on the non assertive side. Taste is rum, dark fruits, plum and a touch of wheat. Water like consistency, light bubbles. Very good, albeit understated beer. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2009 bottle thanks to jkwalking05. deep brown pour with a thick cream head and nose of dark fruits, floral notes and raisins? great on the palate with an even better flavor of fruits but the apple sticks out the most. great beer Swalden28 (1442), McKinney, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2009 Updated: Apr 8, 2009Bottle thanks to jkwalking05. Pours a murky dark brown. Aroma of some dark, citrus, with a tang. Flavor is semi sweet with some funk and citrus. Mouth feel is medium body and fizzy carbonation.....Pretty good stuff! tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark brown with dense, proportional beige head. The aroma is very lovely, lots of dark fruits, almost like blackberry jam; there are also some woody hints, pine needles, vanilla, dry red wine, toffee, and an ever so distant bitter chocolate note. The flavor has a more pronounced toffee quality, along with plenty of prune, plum, cherry, and various berries. There are some nice toasty notes, along with some dried leather. There’s a pleasant dryness to the finish, along with just a nudge of ashy sourness, that keeps everything in balance. A very nice beer, indeed. ggaughan (94), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Luxembourg Mar 1, 2009 What a beer. I have had a few of these in Belgium and brought back a few bottles as well and I am still cellaring those. This bottle I got from Kclinger’s Public House in Etters, PA. Shared it with a few friends on New Year’s Eve, what a treat.
The beer poured a nice rich dark mocha color with a nice tan head that stuck around for awhile. Yum.
The beer has some nice roasted caramel and fruit notes that I can’t get enough of. I have to go back for a few more wiffs before starting to consume the beer.
The fruit character of this beer masks the high alcohol content but it is still there to remind you it is a dubbel and a damn good one at that.
This is definitely a drinkable beer that I would like to have another of really soon. I think I will.
