Pours a dark brown color with medium thick, almost creamy head. The flavor is spicy and tastes like chocolate, coffee, raisins and wheats, almost like a blend of coffee and weissbeer.
A very enjoyable beer indeed. couchand (182), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

As every man we must be able to live. So we have to try to earn our living and let others share in what we have to abstain from. Indeed, we have to live "from" and "with" our brewery. But we do not live "for" our brewery. This must be strange for business people to understand that we do not exploit our commercial assets as much as we can. We are no brewers. We are monks. We brew beer to be able to afford being monks.’’ - Father Abbot on the consecration of the new brewery at St. Sixtus. daknole (2882), Plantation, Florida, USA

It had no info in it...so here goes. Dark brown pour with a nice thick puffy tan head. Aroma of caramel, prunes, raisins, earthy notes, malt and a rich yeasty aroma. Flavor is just wonderful. I rated better than the 12. Fruity, malty, sweet, balanced...rich and wonderful. Notes of yeast, bread, caramel and dark fruit. MMMMMMore please. andywandy (18), England

Poured into Westvleteren glass, pours a thick beige head and immediately an incredibly candylike blossom scent reveals.
Smell of sugary plums and roasted caramel. Lots of roasted malts.
Aroma’s of sweet candy and yeast. Slightly vinous. Very slick. There’s a very warming alcoholic sensation in the aftertaste and then finishes off bitter.
Sweet, warming, bitter, near perfection.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2008 An excellent beer overall, stands up well to its older brother. Pours a dark brown with a 2 fingered, tan head. Nose was plums, figs, sugar, yeast and some alcohol. Palate was mainly fruits and bread with an alcohol finish. A very complex beer that was thorouhly enjoyable. bethmatt0421 (318), Covington, Kentucky, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 26, 2008Pours dark brown, almost black with an off white head. Aroma is bready, fig, picking up alcohol. Flavor is raisin, sugary sweet, light bread. A nice alcohol tingly sensation warms the back of the tongue shortly after drinking, and warms the chest. Comes off heavier than the abt12 if you ask me. Not nearly as complex as its big bro either. Some aging would have likely made this rating a little higher.
