MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Feb 18, 2008 Poured from a 330ml bottle (Thanks again, Tyler!) and served in a St. Sixtus trappist glass. This beer poured a dark, muddy brown with a huge head of fine, tan bubbles that displayed excellent retention. A nice, thick coat of lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of raisins, plums, caramel, candi sugar, dusty yeast, and a hint of mild alcohol. The flavor included dark fruits, caramelized sugar, light bread, and a lasting warm alcoholic finish. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied with lively and crisp carbonation. Nicely balanced and highly complex. A truly excellent beer! popdoggy (100), USA Feb 18, 2008 Yum, Been waiting to try this one. Had in chalice on a "big beer night" I would def. try this one again,
I like the trappist rockefort 8 better, but this is really great.
borisz (180), Netherlands Feb 17, 2008 NIce beer, Better then Westvleteren 12, i like this beer more then ’the best beer in the world’. Bottle 33 CL : nice taste, nice color. Great beer. hellsinghtx (31), Denmark Feb 17, 2008 bottle 33cl: dark brown color with a nice and small greyish head. a good aroma, fruits alcohol and spice. its almost just as good as the 12. yet another belgian beauty. bchlala (42), Denmark Feb 16, 2008 I tasted this beer before I got my account with ratebeer, so I can’t really remember all the flavors. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 12, 2008 Thanks tytoanderso. Pours a dark ruby brown beneath a two finger creamy light tan head. The nose shows light alcohol, ripe fruits, plum and raisin, dark sugars, and some honey as it warms. The flavor is very big, huge carbonation, nice Belgian funk, ripe fruit, plums and raisins, alcohol, very dry, spicy, coriander at the end. Spicy explosive mouthfeel, very lively carbonation. Definitely a good Belgian, but a bit overrated I believe. Doesn’t have as much depth in the flavor as I had hoped. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 12, 2008 Thanks tytoanderso. The color was dark ruby. The head was creamy, off-white, and thin. The aroma was sweet grapes, alcohol, and earthy. The flavor was spicey, alcohol, earthy, and spice. The palate was well carbonated. The finish was warm. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 10, 2008 This is almost as beautiful as its bigger brother. An aroma that is very port-like, with lots of grapes and raisins, with some sweeter spices following through. There is just a moment of heat in the finish from the alcohol. This is how Belgians are supposed to taste! It’s too bad all beers cannot be this delicious.
