Nose is sweet, like cherry cobbler, and a bit medecine like. Flavor is very unique, with the sweetness carrying through. Clean finish. Not sure I like it, but I will definitely try to find a newer vintage to see the difference. Leaving room for a re rate. puzzl (2599), New York, New York, USA

The first time I had this, I was swilling it on the streets of Antwerp straight from the bottle. A very different beer, I must say. It was also room temp. Which the bottle I’m drinking now should probably be.
Very bready, dry aroma, light cloves and pepper. Extra dough. Taste is kind of harsh, minerally, rough on the palate. Astringent as hell. I thought it may open up as it warmed and breathed but it did not. The palate really kills an otherwise fine beer. I was really hoping to love this beer but unfortunately I do not. At all. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA

Incredible aroma of caramel, fig, dark fruit, cocoa. Taste is spicy with cookie dough, earthy, dark fruits, and caramel. Has a yeasty, medium bodied carbonated finish. The slightest alcohol heat. a real treat to sample this one. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 6, 2007 Pours a dark prune with a big frothy head that builds up then dies down to a ring with nice lacing. Smells of caramel, dark fruits, dried fig, some spice, and pear. Taste is delicious with spice and caramel up front but brown sugar, pear, fruits and a doughy quality. So smooth with a nice tickle of carbonation on the toungue. Unbelievably drinkable and a delicious brew Wim (1288), Turnhout, Belgium

Top 50 beer in the world? Maybe, but certainly brought up by the ratings of it’s awesome sister Westy 12. slimchill (776), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2007 Bottle. Sweet nose, touch of acidity. Lots of fruit, mainly cherry and strawberry. Some darker sweetness as well, caramel-like. Opaque dark ruby with a perfect off white head. Impressive indeed. Extremely smooth palate. Not as complex as the 12, but less of the overpowering alcohol presence. Much more balanced. Flavor is subdued sweetness with a bit of spice. Slightly dry finish, lingering sweetness. ekstedt (2420), Göteborg, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 30, 2007 Bottle (33 cl) from Řlbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy deep reddish brown, small beige head. Fruity aroma with plums and dark berries, along with yeast and earthy hops. Medium bodied with soft, yet lively carbonation. Perfectly balanced with a gentle initial sweetness followed by a firm and long bitterness. Excellent, but slightly less complex than its Abt brother.
