Alldaydrinker (557), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Oct 7, 2007 200th Rating From Irishboy, Thanks Richard! Poured a dark brown colour with a medium tan head and lots micro brown particulates. Aroma of brown sugar, dark fruits, cherry and malty. Initial taste of a soft mouthfeel, a very complex one, tasted in awe. (Raisin) more a strong grape, caramel malts make up the initial character quite well. Moving into a tobacco and nutty overlay. The roasty background becomes increasingly more noticeable towards the finish. Finishing with a roasty, creamy and yet slight bitter palate. The grapyness seems also still linger the palate duration as well. Some head retention remained through the beer. Palate duration was excellent. This was absolute great experience. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2007 Clearish amber brown with a thin, but self-maintaining, tan head. Creamy foam to the last drop. Nose of raisin, dough and brown sugar, lovely chocolate banana, some alcohol. Wow, taste is very different from the 12. A beautifully crafted fruitcake elixir with hints of chestnut, wood and carrot in the finish. Velvety body with a soft tang. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Oct 7, 2007 Sampled from the Yespr collection, shared at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a hazy brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, mollasses, overly-ripen pears, some brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon. Taste is medium bodied, not as carbonated at #6, sllightly fruity with some herbal spice. Finish is semi-sweet and then floral hop bitterness. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 6, 2007 This is something special. A thick, brown malty beer, like an abbot ale, if their other beer wasn’t the abt. Some sediment. Flavor and aroma have full bodied malt and fruit. Intense flavors, some apple, pear, a little cherry. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Oct 5, 2007 Updated: Jan 30, 2008Thanks to Yesper again. Pours a nice dark earthy murky brown. Nice sweet malt, mollases, biscuit, and honey on the nose with a light dose of spice. Great spicy palate with a good dose of dark sugar and a light floral hoppiness. This reminds me a lot of pannepot, and that is definately good! Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 29, 2007 Thanks to Papsoe for this one in a million! (via Kaggie97/Zinister trade). Pours a murky very dark brown with great head retention. Nice lacing. Dark fruits, raisins on the nose. Brown sugar and cinnamon as well. Taste is not as layered as the 12, but still fantastic. A bit crisper and cleaner than the 12, but no lingering finish. Thanks Papsoe. pumpmaster (473), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA Sep 28, 2007 Updated: Oct 28, 2007Served in July 2006 at the DeVreda in Belgium. the best beer ever until...Ihad the Westvleteren 12 a few minutes later henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Sep 11, 2007 Bottle 2003 - Beautiful deep brown body with an orange edge, creamy light brown head; Huge very complex nose yet very, very balanced and settled, lots of great aromas ranging from vinous fruity to ripe apple, dark red berries and sweet malty aromas all in a near perfect harmony; Huge perfect body, full, very balanced and super complex, sweet, bitter and slightly salty, perfect big carbonation with a slight bite, perfect soft texture; The longest of long finishes, super full aromas that grows with the length, warm more caramel aromas without being sweet, tobacco sharper sweet aromas, super complex and perfectly balanced, bitter and slightly dry. Amazing beer like the other Westvleteren, this might be the one that ages the best.
