Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2009 Bottle. 2008 I believe, maybe older, thanks RLB, he gave me this one since my first bottle was opened at madness 1. Aroma of plum and raisins. Poured a murky brown. Flavor of raisin and plum, brown sugar, chocolate. Palate was full and lively, very clean. Overall, a pleasure to enjoy with the wife. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2009 I’m going to attempt to not fawn over this beer in the review but let me just say wow. This is amazing stuff.
Appearance is the weak point, and even here I am nitpicking. Pours a murky brown with creamy brown head.
Smell.. Wait, did I open a lambic by mistake? Sweet and fruity, incredibly appetizing.
Taste-I am blown away. In no way are these overrated. Hard to detect alcohol at all.
Mouthfeel- just right amount of carbonation and a medium body.
Dean (15), Netherlands Aug 20, 2009 This bottle was quite a few years old. probably 8 years old or so. Slight port aftertaste. very smooth Fred82 (343), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 16, 2009 Bottle at In de Vrede. Pours deep brown with a medium creamy brownish head. Still some awesome lacing (as with all the Westys) Aroma of red fruits, hops, plums, raisins, chocolate. Taste is spicy and fruity. Small bitterness, some hints of nuts, chocolate and raisins. Slight alcohol feeling but not much really. Head stays until the end. Quite drinkable, very well balanced. RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 9, 2009 Bottle. Color is a very dark brown . Carbonation is good with a big tan head. Aroma is a spicy yeast scent with some mild malt notes. Taste is sweet and a little spicy. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a fizzy feel. Finish is big with Belgian yeast, some dried fruits and a nice spicy feel. After taste lets the fruity Belgian flavors come out with just a hint of bitterness from the spice. This is just an amazing brew. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Aug 9, 2009 11.5 oz bottle 8/9/09 (Courtesy of ygtbsm94)-Pours a very dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma of fruit, toffee, caramel, and spices. Taste of fruit, toffee, raisins, and sweetness. This full bodied brew kicks ass in a major way. So smooth and drinkable. Great beer. shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Aug 7, 2009 Updated: Aug 27, 2009Turns out, this is a pretty damn good beer. Not sure where to begin. The nose on this one is a thing of beauty. Ripe fruits, butterscotch, toffee, some other dark fruits, spices l- a bunch of stuff that fits perfectly together, who the hell knows. i want this recipe! Flavor is Musty plum, and toffee. FOr me, this beer just works. The whole is greater than the some of its many parts. This beer just makes me love beer. parfumisme (1), Netherlands does not count Aug 3, 2009 As if you step into a old dark french cellar. Large and richt palette, musky, oats, fruityness, richtness, fattyness. Doesnt tire you out. Worth whatever your effort.
