dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2007 Bottle at ’t Waagstuk, Antwerp. Pours a deep brown with a two-finger, big bubbled white head that does not lace. Aroma is nice and subdued, with a great deal of yeast esters and spiciness - more than its bigger brother. Slight alcohol presence upfront. Taste is less developed fruitiness than the 12, with a touch of sweet toffee in the after and a finish that is slightly tinged with alcohol. Palate is excellent, but doesn’t quite - again - hit the echelon of the 12, with a bit more carbonation and a little less rounded smoothness. Excellent, excellent beer. Had right after the 12 - difficult to judge objectively. KAME (154), California, USA Apr 22, 2007 Nice reddish brown pour with a lively off-white head. Aroma is light, but mostly belgian yeast, raisins, cherries, and light caramel undertones. Flavor is well balanced yet complex. Basically its a lighter, more subdued, and easier to drink version of the Westy 12. wajacobs (20), USA Apr 20, 2007 A tawny brown with a nice port like bouquet. This beer retains all the charm of its bigger brothern the 12 but without the blistering alcohol bite. Rasins, cloves and peppers are the promeinent flavors. while the bannana like ester usually attributed to belgian beers is only slightly discenable. A lovely beer ...wish I had more of them. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 15, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours with a huge white head and a nice dark brown colour. Aroma is sweet, notes of alcohol but dominated by dark notes like roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste has it all in a fantastic blend. Starts caramel sweet and the notes start ti kick in. Flavour of the classic belgian yeast is added to the complex flavor. Finish is soft and lingering. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Apr 13, 2007 Mmm. This was good. Not overbearing, not a smack you in the face IPA or hugely complex imperial stout. Just a well made and tasty. nice dark brown and ruby coloured pour with an off white tall head. The aroma has bit of dough, caramel, some raisin, and a few other mildly fruity notes. Sugary maltyness, good carbonation on a full bodied beer. Didn’t feel like there was a ton going on, but that doesn’t detract one bit from the flavour. not much alcohol present, but there is a bit. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Apr 7, 2007 Bottle at Jbru´s, march 07. Dark sugar, raisins, molassis and slight spicy notes on the nose. Smooth, almonds, fruity and classy vanilla ending with a touch of anise. Great, very dark copper color and a great, almost yellow head. Smooth, creamy MF with a nice fruity aftertaste. A nice, warming sipper with a great, complex, raisiny feeling. shp555 (1677), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 6, 2007 Pours a deep hazy brown with a off white head. Aroma is of sweet malts, raisins, cloves, figs, and bread. Flavor is figs, very bready. The finish is of dried fruit and is long and complex. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Mar 25, 2007 Bottle provided by Maria. 8%??? Again these fellows must study alcohol camoflage. Pours an ice tea brown with nice fluffy head. Earty aroma mixed with hints of flowers. Dry malty mouth with mixed fruits, rasins apricots and love sweet love. i think I may send the empty back to the brewery.
