Dark, dark ruby with a big and lasting off-white head. Fruit, berries, wine and some alcohol hits the nose first. Banana, cherry, candy, leather. Sweet with lots of malt, a pepper sharpness and finishing dry.

330ml bottle. Dark red, brown body with a nice creamy head. Both aroma an flavor is complex. Sweet malty, slightly roasted warming alcoholic, dry fruit, spicy and a nice amount of hops. It’s a world class beer and difficult to come up with something new to say. I believe true beer lovers have Westvleteren very high up on their top list. I have had the pleasure of sampling this beer and the 12 a few times during the years. Sometimes I have rated the 8 above the 12 and vice versa. Finally I had the chance to compare them at the same time, and I must admit that the 12 are just a bit better.

Poured a deep reddish brown. amazing carbonation very nice head Lots of raisins and leather in the nose some fruitiness and earthiness. Some alc at first but was not noticeable at the second whiff. Very rich mouthfeel like others have said "similar to the 12 but not as refiened ".

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a medium-reddish brown with a caramel-colored one finger head. The aroma is of yeast, prunes and malt. You can taste the malt and yeast. Isn’t as refined as the 12. Excellent beer!

Tastes how you would expect. Very similar to the 12 but less bold. Fantastic beer, but if I’m able to get it, I’d rather have the 12.

12oz bottle, cap marked 18.02.09. Poured into a Westy chalice. Pours dark ruby with a frothy tan head. A lot of subltle aromas here, including apples, brown sugar and wood. smooth and silky mouthfeel; very little carbonation. Big, sweet malty flavor. Finishes with some warming alcohol notes; very brandy-ish. Worth the reputation!

Bottle courtesy of Walt! Thanks!!! Pours a deep red, with a thin, creamy beige head. Gorgeous. Smells of Maple Syrup, heavy malts, and yeast. Taste is of malt, some brown sugar, and i think a touch of heaven. Thanks a ton Walt for giving me the chance to try this!!! Truly Great.
