Rating #1116, flaske fra The Bottle Shop i Brügge

Had the rare opportunity that it was offered to me by someine who does not care about beer and had it lying in the basement. Was almost expired, so even very well aged. And this was easily noticable in the huge complexity of this one. Oh yeah! It had developed a lovely very subtle sourness like sour/wild ale. That on top of the warmth of the abey ale made this a wonderful experience. Only the mouthfeel was a bit thin. But then again, maybe I drank too much Russian Imperials lately.

Bottle: good solid belgian ale, found it in Guatemala in Birra Bier. Unfortunately it’s too expensive for just a ’good’ ale.

Bottle. Thanks to Frank (Bartlebeer) Brown clear body with white head. Aroma is is dried fruits, yeast, almonds some sugar and spices. Taste is first sweet then yeasty fruity and some bitterness. Aftertaste is is nice bitter slightly balanced by some malty sweetness with some alcohol. Was expecting a little bit more.

Bouteille.

33Cl

33 cl bottle at home. Pours unclear brown with medium off-white, pillowy head. Aroma: dried dark fruits, brown sugar, butterscotch, spices. Taste: Starts of with high sweetness. Finish is low in sweetness with high bitterness. Finish is bitter and a little dry. Notes of coffee, dark fruits and roasted nuts. Texture is creamy with soft carbonation. Very nice and balanced.

Really great beer. Life is too short to drink cheap beer was one of reasons I had to taste it, don’t regret it.
