Bottle. I tasted this one several times and finally got around to rating it. The beer poured a deep red-brown with thick beige head. Nice notes of raisins, plums, caramel, hints of sour cherries, bitter finish.

Bottle @ In de Vrede, Westvleteren. Pours a slightly hazy brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty slightly yeasty dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty dark fruit, raisins, plums, figs flavor with some hints of caramel and some yeasty hints. Has a sweetish malty dark fruit finish with a slightly bitter hints in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Had in the cellar for awhile and even traded a few away. Pour was dark, but not to brown. Way to much head, took me 4-5 min to pour into glass. Palate was great, tons of fruit and not overpowering at all. I liked the 12 aged a little more, but this is a very close second.

Bottle. Pours very muddy brown with a medium-thick pale tan head with lovely lacing. Nose is yeast, sour cherries, brett, chocolate, fruit, tomato ketchup. Palate runs from initially quite sweet to a very dry finish, more fruit and sourness. Very earthy and mushroomy, seemed infected or off-balance. Shame, I had really high hopes for this after the letdown that the 12 was.

Well, I have to say... Most disappointing brewery ever! The 12 was one of the weak links in a blind tasting I participated in recently. Now this. Infected bottle. Gusher. Pours a cloudy brown tons of yeast with a large head. Aroma is filled with brettanomyces. Sour cherries, oranges, musty basement and horse blanket. On the palate it’s not very complex, watery and sour. Nice mouth feel, saving this beer from being a disaster.

Bottle. Poured a murky brown. Nose was fig, plum, cherry, cardboard, sherry, sweet malt, some tart fruit. Flavor was a great medley of plum, raisin, fig, sweet caramel, toffee, candy sugar, tart cherry, oxidation, and musky basement. What a gem!

Bottle, 33cl, thanks to my brother-in-law for having a storage of 48 Westvleterens in his appartment :). A red to light brown coloured beer with a beige head, not lacing very well however. An aroma of malts, dark fruits, also light caramel and dried prunes. The taste goes very similar: it starts with light sugar candy, light caramel adn evolves over dried prunes and dark fruits to a malty taste. Also very well balanced beer, one taste flowing over in the other, that all with a full mouthfeel. It finishes dry with some light alcohol. Fantastic trappist beer, but not with the tints and shades of the Westvleten 12, wihch has an even bigger, more beautiful and more fantastic taste. But this Westlveteren 8 is also very worth drinking!
