Westvleteren has the smallest output of the Trappist breweries, with only a small part of their production going very far into the world.

Dark brown body with a dense light brown head. Malty and sweet aroma with dark fruit, coke candisugar and a touch of bitterness. Malty flavor with hints of yeast, dark fruit and alcohol. Bitter finish

Very hard to get and very expensive, but worth every penny and every effort. This is probably the beer with the most complex palate, taste and aroma in the world. Unforgettable. So good it can actually dispense with a label...

(Drinking date: 13 July 2014) A bit murky beer, dark brown colour. Small layer of beige frothy foam. Aroma of ripe dark fruits. Not really intense aroma. The taste is sweetbitter at first, and it ends with a bitterness. The mouthfeel is not really good. The body is a bit too watery, and the carbonation is medium to heavy, which is too much. Overall this is still a really good beer, but the westvleteren 12 is better, of course. This beer is a bit too normal. There is not an outstanding aroma or flavour. And thatís why I give this beer a 3.7

Bottle: Trade with Shrubber85 for BBQ ribs, potato salad and a safe place to shoot fireworks. Cola-brown with a thin tan head. Bready, prune and cola scent. Slightly creamy, dark fruit, raisin/apple taste. Still pretty good despite some age and oxidation. Even a little bruised you can tell this is a world-class beer.

A cloudy cola brown coloured beer with a thick white head. A heady aroma of ripened fruits, raisins, cherries, plums, plus a malt aroma in the background. Complex doesnít even start to describe this! Tart yeasty and possibly hoppy sourness, vinous and citrus fruit. Then a sweet dark fruit flavour and malt, like a Soreen malt loaf, only on another level! The finish just lengthens all the elements into a wonderous aftertaste. Tasted at "In de Vrede", Westvleteren.

It is beautiful dark caramel in color with residual yeast floating around, topped off by a light beige very soft head. Aroma is, like the XII, very complex, though the alcohol overrides the subtle roast and caramel. Though the consistency is not as viscous as one would expect for a beer like this, the taste brings up an earthy touch, but again the alcohol gets hard to ignore. It leaves a nice coffee aftertaste. Lovely beer.

An amazing beer that is well worth the price tag and the effort in finding. I brought several bottles back from Brussels to share with Family. It is unlike any other abbey Iíve ever had with an amazing presentation, taste, and finish.

Ruby Brown coloured beer with small head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins and malts. Taste is bittersweet and yeasty. After taste is long with subtle sweetbitterness. Donít drink this beer too cold. (12-16 C)

330 ml bottle @ home. Aroma fig, toffee and toasted bread, maybe some coriander. Pours brown notes with small but creamy head. Flavor is sweet with some spiciness to it. Light dark fruits and brown sugar. It's just soooo smooth. Excellent trappist! - with thirst, Niklas

Bottle - Brown color with a bubbly beige head, good lasting but no lacing - Aroma is malty, caramel, candy sugar, dried fruits and plum, red fruits, spicy yeast - Flavor is malty, plum, candy sugar, spicy yeast - Medium/full body, fizzy carbonation, medium bitterness, sweet, sweet malt finish - Bottle received in 2011, a little bit too fizzy, really good but a little bit overrated imo
