ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany Jan 21, 2007 Bottle. Thanks to jdg0608. Poured a reddish orangish dark color and very carbonated. Aroma of malt, rose, and citrus. Taste rose and citrus. This beer is out of this world. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Jan 20, 2007 Pours a midnight, dark mahogany amber w/ a full, semi creamy froth reducing to a thick creamy canopy that just sits there throughout the whole duration. Amazing! Aroma is almost like a sour Lambic w/ rock candy, veggies, and grahm crackers. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers creates a soft cottony texture. The sweetness factor is mild. Flavor profile includes steak (reminds me of Brasserie de Rocs Grand Cru -liver), cocoa, cake bread, tree bark, ripe pear, and sweet sourdough. I find myself trying to descibe something that isn’t there. Turns out to be the sourdough all along. The finish is long and bittered perfectly w/ peach pit. Highly recommended. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Jan 10, 2007 Actually liked this one more than the 12.Dark fruits and spices are in the aroma.Pours a cloudy brown with a tan head.Belgian yeast and dark fruits make up the flavors.Medium to full mouthfeel with some warming alcohol in the finish. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 7, 2007 Rating 600 from henrikb, marked either 11.12.06 or 11.12.08--I can’t tell. Pours a hazy orange red with a 3 1/2 finger staying creamy beige head. Aroma of yeast and dusty malts, musty powdered sugar. There are also hints of cinnamon, vanilla, figs, raisins, and cherries (figs moreso), some soft notes of chocolate. Flavor up front is more musty with a bit of granny smith--tartness and all--with most of the other flavors falling into line, though a little more difficult to pick out. Roasty slightly bitter dry finish. Alcohol is noticeable. Light to moderate carbonation, medium bodied. Very nice. browner (34), Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, USA Jan 4, 2007 Updated: Jan 14, 2007Scores high for me with a perfect interaction behind the yeast and malt traditions of a strong Belgum Ale. Like the palate with a smooth delivery but not soft and meaningless. Tones of chocolate. caramel and you name the fuit are a nice dry complement to a beer that continues to deliver in wide temperature range. An absolute top 50 beer. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 31, 2006 Bottle; Nose of caramel, dark fruits, and spices; very hazy rusty brown with a 2 1/2 inch cinnamon colored head, that nicely laced the glass as it very slowly receded; flavor shows caramel, raisins, and some spiciness, in a medium body, with a tiny bit of alcohol and hops in the finish. BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark Dec 31, 2006 [Sampled in 2003 at Carlsens.]
At first sight a better and higher notes than the Wv 12, but only because I was a newcomer. Maybe it will turn. Warm fullbodied like irish coffee with notes of fruits and spices. Some bitterness in the ESB-way, complex and a very wonderful finish. I’ll better go with chocolate Rik, l’Artisan, to Lo and stay there for the rest of my life only 10 km from the holy monastary. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Dec 30, 2006 Damn good beer. Rich mouthfeel and caramel flavor. So very smooth and delicious.
