kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Nov 19, 2006 Bottle courtesy of sk8viking. Thanks, Rene! Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, with yellow edges; light tan head with good retention and lacing. Aroma shows generous amounts of yeast (very reminiscent of Champagne) with a biscuity toastiness underneath. Medium-to-full, well-balanced mouthfeel: yeasty, bready, and mildly spicy; dried fruits and graham crackers are the most suggestive notes I can pull out; very drinkable and composed. Finishes slightly dry with plenty of yeast, hints of white pepper and spice. VLtrappist (2), Belgium does not count Nov 19, 2006 very goooood beer!!!!! i drunk it at the abbey him self and will order soon alot of it
no bitter after taste, just perfect ... cant say it better mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2006 Bottle. Pours a murky brown-rubyish body with a soapy medium-sized head. Nice perfumey caramel aroma, floral cookies, toffee, and an interesting contribution of spices. Alcohol is present in the flavour with chocolate and caramely fruit substance. Very good. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Nov 16, 2006 33 cl bottle shared by the house wine lover himself- I must admit that before we even tried this one, we seriously considered dumping this out, and in its place, pouring Fuller’s London Porter, mixed with Vodka to create a clone. Then we had an even better idea, why not buy a bottle of La Terrible, and add water to it, to bring the ABV down? WOuldn’t it be the same thing? Deep chestnut, pours and emits a thin, tight bubbled beige skin. Apples, plums, prunes, fig, pear, and orages give way to spices (cinnamon) and a mildly smoky malt with subtle hops. Ohh my. Very fruity flavours, that pretty much mimic the aroma, nutmeg and other spices, very earthy and full. Dry, flavourful, lingering finish. Yes, I like it. Thanks Mr.S! jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Nov 14, 2006 From a distinctive no label 33 cl. slender bottle with a freshness date on the cap, 18.02.09, sampled at cellar temperature in a Westvleteren chalice a friend gave me last year.
Poured a tasting looking dubbel brown with a frothy, foamy off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, small amount of sticking.
Aromas of plum fruitiness, candied sugar, licorice, toffee and a soft spiciness, a great dubbel nose.
Good steady soft carbonation and a crisp, dry, creamy smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel, just excellent.
A wonderful dubbel taste, plum brandy, coffee and toffee, a touch of licorice, a subtle honey graininess, a very soft herbal tea hoppiness, the alcohol is a bit spicy, like a well made rum, and warming in the palate, and a dry yeasty, malty finish with a little herbal flavor lingering in the palate.
A delicious dubbel, tasty and balanced, I am thankful that I finally had a chance to try this, well worth seeking out.
jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 12, 2006 tasted at In de Verde: Another simply amazing beer, much like the 12 except distinct in that it has a fruiter aroma and is not as dry. aroma is plum, rasin and spice, with hints of alcohol. The flavor is pleasently of carmel malts, dried friuts, and spice. perfect palate, tickles the tongue, coats the mouth and screams drink me. You have to try this one too, not just the 12. Amazing TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Nov 8, 2006 Enjoyed a sample of this one at Tasting in the Woods, Part Deux. This beer pours to a deep brown color, with a thick, creamy white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic with aromas of carmel malt, candy sugar, plummy/fruity esters, and some spicy yeast aroma. The palate is rich and full on the tongue with some really good caramel and sweet malt, paired with a rum like sweetness, and some earthy/spicy yeast flavor. This beer finishes with more of those complex and delicious flavors up front, the ends with a peppery alcohol burn that lingers. Outstanding beer. A wonderful after dinner drink, and a beer that would match well with rich deserts, or as a beer to sip and savor with a good book. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 5, 2006 Very dark colour with a creamy off-white head. This goes down so smooth. I thing it hides the alcohol extremely well for 8%. There are of cause hints of the big brother, but this beer can still hold its own. Aroma is dry fruit, bread, and some yeast, candies, caramel notes. I thought it was very complex and full bodied. Maybe the finish is not that long lasting compared to the ATB 12. Still this is a delicious beer and my nr. 100… :-)
