Bottle. Sweet nose, touch of acidity. Lots of fruit, mainly cherry and strawberry. Some darker sweetness as well, caramel-like. Opaque dark ruby with a perfect off white head. Impressive indeed. Extremely smooth palate. Not as complex as the 12, but less of the overpowering alcohol presence. Much more balanced. Flavor is subdued sweetness with a bit of spice. Slightly dry finish, lingering sweetness.

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhilomon Go). Clear dark chestnut color. Small size, off-white head, stays. Raisins, yeasty, alcohol, malty, sweet in aroma. Alcoholic, sweet, raisins, earthy and slightly metallic in taste. Some plasticy elements too. Sweet, yeasty and faint metallic in aftertaste. Sweet and boozy. Distant hops give nice dry mouthfeel and soft bitterness. Soft carbonation. Way too sweet and boozy brew.

Bottle at home, bought a year ago. Pours dark brown, small brown dense head, lots of yeast in the bottle. Nose is deep, dried fruits, brown sugar, some spices, plums, herbs - complex and delicious. Taste is dried fruits, prunes, treacle, raisins, a bit of chocolate, light syrupy, warming alcohol. Very smooth and well balanced. Finish is dryish bitter, dried fruits, even a bit flat feeling although the beer itself is nicely carbonated.

A 330ml bottle with a sell-by date that has unfortunately rubbed off. Poured into a Chimay goblet glass. It poured a dark brown colour with some small sediment bits despite a careful pour. There was a one finger beige head that had pretty good retention and eventually settled to a nice thin but puffy cap and nice curtain like lacing. Aromas of strong dark fruits of plum, prunes, raisin, fig with hints of dark cherry and toffee. Taste was like the aroma, lots of dark fruit with raisin, dark cherry and prunes dominating. There’s also some plum, fig, brown sugar and a touch of alcohol that’s not overpowering. Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall it’s a very nice Dubbel. Great dark fruit flavours and very balanced. Interestingly though, after trying both many times, I am still leaning towards enjoying Westmalle Dubbel just that slight bit more.

Hazy dark brown body with yeast floters, medium sized tan head. Aroma of booze, classic belgian stuff, brown sugar. Dried fruit taste, brown sugar, grapes, wine barrel, chocolate, too sweet. lively carbonation, creamy texture, medium body. Little bit unbalanced, carbonation killed me, and too sweet for me. Overall i think it’s overrated. //bottle, thanks to kajser

0.33 bottle. A hazy, dark brown color and a small, off-white head leaving some lacing. Aroma of dark malts and spices - served a bit too cold but it does seem rather simple. Taste of yeasts, fruits, spices, and flowers. A medium body, a creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is medium long and good - nothing to add. Overall the beer is drinkable and tasty, but 12 remains the king for a reason!
