Bottle shared with tupalev & jerc - big thanks to blankboy for the bottle! Ah, so nice to be able to finally complete the Westy trifecta! Pours a slightly hazy mahogany with a sizable tan head that leaves lot of lacing. Aroma is floral and herbal, yeasty and funky, with notes of tea and almond and bread. Flavour is full and complex, with notes of herbal tea (camomile?), rye bread, vanilla, and dry citrus to finish. I knew it was going to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be so interesting and unique. Lovely stuff!

Many thanks to Rian for this little beauty. Dark mahogany with a rocky beige head. Rich rich aroma of malt, plums, and raisins with a lovely silky, candy infused effervescent palate. Huge malt, warming alcohol, some berry fruit and a subtle dry earth bitterness. Distinctive house yeast. Wonderfully complex.

Brown with a green-brownish head. Watery mouthfeel. Faint aroma of prunes, dry wood nd yeast. Taste dry fruit, paper, earth, bitter malt, raisins. Short and dry, woody aftertaste. Easy drinkable, but not as much taste as supposed. But what did I actuially suppose.

Pours hazy chestnut with a nice buff head. Aroma presents woody, malty and pretzel tones. Flavor starts with malt and caramel, and earthy and woody notes come right behind. Mouthfeel presents good body and OK fizz. Not quite as Big Sister 12, but worthy.

Bottle@home (2015 vintage) pours a hazy dark brown colour with an off-white head. Taste and aroma reveals sweet dark malts with a plethora of dark dried fruits, some notes of toffee and caramel, yeast, light nutty, great spices, lovely and smooth on the palate, aroma and taste gets better as it warms up, very nice indeed - even this fresh, but will definitely stash another bottle away and reacquaint myself with this in a few years.

33cl bottle at home. Pours a dark brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of raisins, plums, caramel. Taste has a nice combination of sweetness and bitterness with nice of plums, raisins, vanilla, caramel, toffee. Texture is foamy with lively carbonation. Very similar to the westvleteren 12.

33cl bottle at home (1 XI 2015). Beautiful black brew with a beige to brown collar, though this head is not long lasting or vast. Some flakes drift in the glass, spreading lovely yeast flavours. I could also depict some malts and raisins. A very promising start. Yet the taste reminds me of the truth - this beer being the little brother. The mouth has those raisins again, and some caramel, fondant chocolate hints - strong yet short in flavour - and even dark fruits and blue grapes. The ending is very tasteful, but not that complex and rather short. The palate is strong bodied for sure, but besides the sweetness and warming alcohol, you can notice some water notes too.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2015 Like an easier drinking XII... (although the XII is still pretty quaffable). Impossible not to draw comparisons between the two as the flavour profile is very similar. The 8 is slightly thinner in the mouth and obviously not as boozy, but still has the same amazing flavours of plums, caramel, cherries, bread, ripe bananas... delicious.
